Starmer Pushes Back Against Trump.

UK PM: Sir Keir Starmer.

According to Beth Rigby of Sky News, she has never seen the UK Prime Minister look so troubled. Sir Keir stood at the podium in the Downing Street Newsroom, delivering a message of a serious split in opinion between the UK and the US. Beth described the prime minister's face as grave. In her words, this press briefing by the prime minister is the most serious crisis in the so-called special relationship between the UK and the US in years.

The UK has refused to acquiesce to Trump's demands. Trump will issue 10% tarrifs on the UK if Starmer does not back Trump's demands to acquire or even invade Greenland. Starmer has pushed back, saying the UK will not bend to "Pressure" from the US. A relationship is built on trust and conversation, not one party holding a gun to the other's head. Saying "Do what I tell you or else"!!! This is a very Mafia way of doing business, and Trump has been compared to a gangster. After all, people like Al Capone and John Gotti described themselves as businessmen. Trump is also essentially a businessman, and like Gotti and Capone, seems to be threatening those around him to get what he wants.

Mr. Starmer backs the Kingdom of Denmark in its ownership of Greenland. Starmer has a great relationship with Mette Frederiksen, the Danish Prime Minister. Starmer has sent British troops along with other NATO nations to Greenland. To shore up Greenland's defence in case Trump tries to take Greenland by force. Why else would Europe send troops and equipment unless they expected the Americans to take military action? Trump has offered to buy Greenland from Denmark. Mette Frederiksen essentially told him where to go. Macron of France has been telling Europeans, whether in the EU or not, to stand up to Trump.

Sir Keir, at this press conference, still highlighted that the relationship between America and Britain remains important. He said talks were still ongoing, and he would continue to talk to Trump. Unlike the EU under Ursula Von Der Leyen Mr. Starmer said he would hold off from revenge tariffs on the US for now. Instead, he said he would look at other options to deal with this crisis.

Since Trump's little adventure in bombing Venezuela and kidnapping "Saddam" Maduro, it seems Trump has let this little adventure go to his head. He is threatening Greenland with invasion if he cannot buy it. He is going to impose stringent tariffs on those who oppose him. He is threatening to do something about Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Panama, Cuba, Iran, et al. What that "do something about" means remains to be seen.

Is Trump reviving "colonialism", a concept we thought had died after WW II? Is he genuinely saying that when it comes to Greenland, the US requires ownership of Greenland for the US and European security? Or is it a greed thing because, as the snow and ice are melting in Greenland, because of global warming (which Trump refutes), there are valuable minerals in the soil? Or is it both? One cannot really know what is going on in the head of an unpredictable man like Trump.

Piers Morgan has refuted the idea of Trump's opponents that he is the new Hitler. However, with Trump's current antics, his opponents will be saying "Told you so"! What was Hitler's reason for causing World War II? Lebensraum, or in English, living room or space. In other words, Hitler felt Germany needed to expand and take over other countries because Germany needed to expand to settle its population and grab whatever resources those countries had. Is Trump acting out the same playbook?

To answer this, only 2026 will reveal this. Trump is acting like Putin, like Netanyahu, even Xi. Trump has always shown dictatorial tendencies; now, like the above men, he seems to be channelling their very spirit.
