Moment of Silence Challenge Winners
An inside look into the Vocal Curation Team's favorite poems from the Moment of Silence Challenge

Shhh! Just a pause when the world stops and we can listen. Silence, just seven letters, so not too much to play with for an acrostic poem but we had some lovely entries. Congratulations to our winner, Zivah Avraham, for Folly — a swift but searing perspective on those ‘cast out’. And, while it never influences our choice, unless it’s in the rubric — a terrific choice of illustration too.
Second place goes to Daniel K. for these hands of mine, which tells a story of lost love and creation and just a few brief lines. There’s something complete about this piece which we really admired.
And some great runners-up. A shout out to Kale Bova for the alliterative Luminous Lavender Libraries — extra points because of course, we love libraries! We loved the language in Addison Alder’s Deep Shore, especially that ‘sleek-slowly’. And Henri Korolis’s We don’t miss silence. is a sweet paean to parenthood.
Back to silence for us now. Bravo to all! And thank you, as ever.
