Meta Yields to the Right
Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg recently announced META (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads) will no longer use fact checkers and rely on a community notes to report information. Zuckerberg announced the decision after meeting with President-elect Trump. However, what Zuckerberg did not announce was overturning protection for LGBTQ+ community, women, and BIPOC. In other words, META users will be able to attack these marginalized groups with no consequences. Since the announcement, many users on Threads have already begun looking for an alternative social media space, or deleting their accounts from all social media. However, it is vital we stay on these apps and continue to make our presence known in the META-verse.

The Children Matter
I follow a mostly-upbeat social media platform that features millions of photos and short videos, and I spend maybe an hour a day scrolling though the pictures, reading the captions and the comments. I often find news items that aren’t reported in popular sources, which then forces me to dig up the facts and uncover hidden truths. Some of the comments are spot-on hysterical. Others, however, get trolled to death until the original poster deletes the photo. Standards, both written and unspoken, are followed, and certain original posters (OP) are famously followed because of their unique perspective on things.

A Human
From the perspective of a straight man like myself, I took in the prowess and power of Jeffrey Wright’s Tony-Award winning performance as Belize in the groundbreaking play by Tony Kushner, Angels in America. I didn’t actually see the play but I noticed the bravura of Wright’s performance adapted to the small screen when the production appeared on HBO in 2003 as a miniseries. The captivating way he uses Mr. Kushner’s words allowed me to reconsider everything I knew about the LGBTQ+ community. He did one thing: make everyone human.
