Lights all around us
Before the night ends, and we take the bus
Mom and Dad turn to us
"What other games do you want to play?"
We didn't have enough time for a ride and stay
We point to a stand, and go up to pay
"Step right up! Step right up! You could be a winner!"
I see the prizes. From big, fat, ones to those that are thinner.
Like most games I tried, at this one I'm just a beginner.
Cash in hand, there at the stand, they poured balls into our pots.
My siblings each, we tossed and reached, as they had given lots.
Most had missed, some even grew pissed, for we had taken our shots.
I remember it now, it all came down, to the last ball in my hand.
I did what I could, bounced it off the wood, the ball flew from the stand.
Then to our glee, what did we see, a prize I had won was grand.
As a little kid that night I did have a wish.
To visit that stand last, for our night to finish.
I walked away in hand, in my bag a goldfish.
It was a lucky night with a lucky toss, it seemed to be the best.
It was a lucky night I won a lucky prize, it was part of my quest.
It was a lucky night, it was lucky to leave with us, I named him "Chest."
I watched him as we drove back, a small leviathan blowing bubbles of foam.
A golden scale right upon his head, a golden coin on his blackened dome.
He swam out the bag into the tank. I fed him, for he was now a part of our home.
