Sun Dance

Poppy’s Prompts in May…

Inky black coats the celestial sphere

That’s right… splash it around… nice and thick… everywhere!

Sparkling diamonds scatter across the firmament

Come on stars! That’s your cue…

Burn your pin pricks of light right through!

Midnight blue… blankets the silently slumbering sky…

All cosy and snug…

Dawn’s arrival draws nigh.

Indigo and violet seep slowly, steadily across the palette

Eroding the night’s navy-blue vault

Going, going… you’re gone!

Magenta regally ascends her throne

Ready to greet the waking world alone

One moment, your Majesty… you have company…

Wind whistles, warbles and wails steadily…

Scarlet coloured, cirrus clouds are sent scurrying

Streamers strung up in dizzying array…

Celebrating a pristine day

Ooh… it’s a party! Who can resist a party?

Not me!

A silvery moon bids adieu… takes flight

Descends ’til time’s ripe to reign again…

Tonight!

NO!

GO!

You can NOT stay up all day!

NO WAY!

When it’s your first quarter… then, you get to play at midday!

Settle down… there’ll be another chance!

At dusk Luna will return… to join the sun’s intricate dance.

Finally!

Sun… no need to pout!

Meanwhile… glimmering golden rays peep out

Bursting free from the horizon‘s shackles

Come on, look lively!

A triumphant sun dazzles…

Saffron yellow dripping with tangerine and crimson rays

Enveloping slumbering souls, blinking awake in a daze.

Bathing them in pure radiance and hope

That’s more like it! No time to mope!

The fiery ball soars steadily, relentlessly upwards…

Until it reaches its zenith…

Its crowning glory!

Hurrah… almost the end of the story

Azure blue paints the empyrean

(An excellent word… better than you may read again)

Halfway through another glorious day.

Hip hip hooray!

Written for Poppy’s Prompts in May.

I wrote a sweet poem about a sunrise…

The outcome? My ‘chief advisor’ (my daughter) rightly informed me it sounded AI generated!🥺

My remedy was to add in some deranged interjections! 😵‍💫

Below is another Nature poem written for an earlier Poppy’s Prompts Challenge.

I love the energy and interjections of this! It really made it come alive. If I'm honest, that's what I often love about your poetry. When you let things flow freely. Well done and thank you for sharing this as part of my challenge thing - as I must have missed it initially. Loved it!

  • This sun dance is very eye-catching!

I think sun-up and sun-down are two of the most beautiful sights. You captured the symphony marvelously. And the colors to describe them too.

I think your daughter was way off, but I loved the interjections, so she also deserves a thank you! Also really enjoyed all the vivid color imagery! Phenomenal, Angie!

I'm with Hannah. It made me laugh! The difference in tones was just bonkers! Almost Pythonesque.
