runaway train

follow the torrential choas of this stream of thoughts as they runaway from rationality in an anxious spiral

By purging purgatoryPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Sometimes , you find yourself

on train of thought that seems ceaseless

No matter how many attempts you take to exit at the next stop

the next thought break

It j never seems to slow enough for you to step off

into another flow

another stream of consciousness

The direction and velocity of this train is relentless

Unwavering

Steadfast in its forward race towards burnout

Uncontrollable and unstoppable on its quest to wreck the remnants of your already depreciating psyche

This runaway train of thought is unbearable

As you decide that you’re absolutely unable to veer onto a new course of thought

You allow the train to runaway with the last bearings of your focus

You allow your clarity to be robbed by the runaway train bandits hopping from car to car grasping at the last threads of your inner peace and contentment that you’ve worked so diligently to cultivate

The train is barreling towards the wall of your heart center with such a penetrable fury , wailing towards your certain destruction

and yet , as much as you try to pull the cord or quell the fire

There seems to be nothing you can do but sit back and meet your inevitable end

The wall approaches ever closer and the panic you felt to control the train ceases

You accept your end

Taking in all that is , the once impenetrable wall of defense before you

as you barrel ever faster towards your inevitable demise

the peace that pervades your temple is strange and causes a weird dissonance within your psyche

The train barreling forward propelled on the panic that once permeated your vessel now loses momentum as you accept your existence within this runaway thought

As you notice yourself within , you see so as without

and you notice that the train is separable from the self

The thought is not you

Yet you had identified with being on the train for so long , you believed that was the only way you could exist

So you trapped yourself on this e-motion sickness inducing rollercoaster of a runaway thought train ride

and convinced yourself you couldn’t get off until the end

that you had to see it all the way through

And in doing so ,

in seeing it all the way through

It dispelled the fear from the thought

because you realized that the thought itself wasn’t as fear inducing as you previously perceived it to be

but in seeing it all the way through ,

You faced your fear

You allowed yourself to accept the inevitability of your fears without fighting against them

You allow yourself to accept life as it comes to you without reacting to the thoughts that runaway with your spirit

The runaway thought has but one goal:

to pull your spirit from the present moment

to distract your soul from flowing with the essence of the universe

The more you allow yourself to flow

regardless of the perceived mistakes

The more you allow yourself to enjoy the bliss and peace of the present moment that comes in the form of true mindful presence

by allowing the trains to run

without identifying yourself as the person on or operating the train

You are no longer a casualty of this runaway train wreck

nor the cynical proprietor who orchestrated it

You’re simply the observer of the experience

You can choose to help alleviate

Or allow it to pass and course correct on its own

At the end of the day ,

you decide what it is runs away with your attention

with your focus

with the love in your soul

Ensure you’re not running away from yourself

Accept what is

And let go of what isn’t
