Ripples

All the things we leave behind

If tomorrow starts without me, what will I leave behind?

Echoes and memories,

Joys and sorrows,

Regrets and longings,

But I shall feel none of them.

If tomorrow starts without me, how will I be remembered?

A friend,

A brother,

A son,

A loss,

A face,

A waste,

A name,

A hero,

A mystery,

A villain,

A man.

To some I might be all,

To most I will be one.

And to the rest, I cannot guess,

Fate alone determines where the chips fall.

If tomorrow starts without me,

What will I leave behind?

What ripples to show the world of my passing.

Love

Hate

Sorrow

Joy

All these things and nothing.

Memories of me,

Oh, what will they be?

Those memories I leave behind me,

Fun

Loss

Anger

Laughter

The ripples I leave behind

Running circles in their mind

Thoughts about the ties that bind

Hoping one day to find

The courage to lament all left undone

If tomorrow starts without me.

This poem was inspired by Kayleigh Fraser's" One of Us" unofficial challenge. That challenge has since closed, (read the conclusion article here) but it was such a fun prompt that I just had to do it again!

Thank you so much for running this fun challenge, Kayleigh!

Sombre in an introspective way, and no less beautiful for it ☺
