Ice

A poem about freezing

Peel the lore from me

Until I am nothing more

Than creaking pine branches

Groaning under the snow,

Waving in the arctic breeze.

.

Go on and dip your fingers

Into the hollows of my trunk

And pull out the shooting stars

Lodged in the gentle bones

Of a ribcage as cold and cruel

As the arctic tundra itself.

.

I am a monster covered in snow,

Glittering in the way of some

Benevolent dreamer when I am

The violent tongues lashing out

From the surface of the sun.

.

There is fury in my soul.

Prehistoric, wanton, unyielding.

The ice is in my eyes already,

Tightly gathered like spears.

This is a swansong,

A lovely dive into the freeze.

About the Creator

Silver Daux

Shadowed souls, cursed magic, poetry that tangles itself in your soul and yanks out the ugly darkness from within. Maybe there's something broken in me, but it's in you too.
