"Wayland's Smithy" by Angie Livingstone (The Glittering Fox)

Introduction

This is my sixty-seventh piece inspired by Angie Livingstone's inspirational artwork. I love the beautiful autumnal colours in this work.

Our book, "The Art Of The Glittering Fox", is now available on Amazon throughout the world.

This poem is a Ghazal. It is the first time I have tried this form. I was not sure it would work, but I am very happy with the result.

Ghazal is a form of amatory poem or ode, originating in Arabic poetry.

The ghazal form is ancient, tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry. It spread into the Indian subcontinent in the 12th century due to the influence of Sufi mystics and the courts of the new Islamic Sultanate, and is now most prominently a form of poetry of many languages of South Asia and Turkey.

A poem of ghazal commonly consists of five to fifteen couplets, which are independent, but are linked abstractly, in their theme, and more strictly in their poetic form. The structural requirements of ghazal are similar in stringency to those of the Petrarchan sonnet. In style and content, due to its highly allusive nature, ghazal has proved capable of an extraordinary variety of expression around its central themes of love and separation.

Ohh, this one is your first. Thank you for the background of what a Ghazal is. With your help. I'll be more familiar with it. Ooo it usually has central themes of love and separation. Interesting. The repetition in this one will have it stuck in my head. To the point where everyday I will be off to Wayland Smithy. Excited by it's portal. I love the idea of the white hare spreading her stars from Wayland Smithy. Such a beautiful world building and poem to bring it all alive. Nice job Mike πŸ€—β€οΈ

I’ve never heard of a ghazal before; I’ll have to look more into the form. I love the final stanza. There’s just something very mystical about it. Well done!
