Red Leaf

A Frosted Verse Challenge Entry

By Cindy CalderPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Winter’s harsh breath steals across the land so vast

In chilling whispers beckoning beneath an icy blast

Frost harkens back life and death in one fell swoop

A new season strikes to conquer in a winning coup.

*

A red leaf beyond upon a tree branch signals and calls

As it breaks free of frost, holding fast to a fading fall

Its color bursts stark against the white and snowy dew

Seeking instinctive survival in the icy, wintry view.

*

Frost covers nature's allure to blend the two seasons -

Edge of fall’s demise meets winter’s birth, finding reason

To propel change found in dewy frost and bitter cold,

A well-executed web spun in creation’s fickle mold.

I love how you brought this red leaf to life but before that you set the scene for us, which was so pleasingly vivid. the words flowed like wine, very rich in rhymes and your choice of pacing was perfect for this. I loved this line ‘ Edge of fall’s demise meets winter’s birth’ a gold star ⭐ for you for capturing the fact that the seasons do merge. Congratulations for your honoroable mention under most discussed stories on this weeks leaderboard 👌🏽👏🏽🎉🎊🥳

We both went in an invasion/coup route and I really like how you approached yours! Some really magical imagery in this!

I love that you showed the other side of winter. A lot of people romanticize the season because of the holidays. I like that this one is a little more crisp in it's description.

Ooh, this hits like a nature drama! That red leaf’s fighting spirit? Iconic. Fall and winter battling it out with frost as their referee—love it. You’ve got me rooting for the leaf now!😊✨
