Frost of Dawn

A Frosted Verse Challenge Entry

By Cindy CalderPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

There’s a lingering chill stirring in the day’s air

Reaching to depths of scattered corners laid bare

Creeping along recesses of both hearth and mind

Whilst echoing songs written in age old designs

*

Come hither to frolic on frosty morning knolls

Listen to melodies attuned to nature’s sweet souls

Watch the sun rise in the east as ice turns to dew

Capture the spun breath of sunlight, created anew

*

Seize the frosty charm as it echoes your breath

Heralding the dawn approaching with great stealth

Beneath fingertips, know frosted, flowering delights

Colorful, arrayed adornments enrapturing sight

*

Feel an acquaintance with winter's new born cold

Sipping hot tea to entice the warmth of the soul

Simmering in the still silence found in the morn

Eagerly relinquishing all worries carried and borne

*

Into the day, tread courageously, knowing no fear

As the frost marks a path, clear and well-steered

For life unfurls in a series of unexpected notions

Much like distant winds, drifting over vast oceans.

The fact that you started the first word for the rhyme with air, it made this piece something like a whisper. It brings the chill of my room to life and your words started to creep through the hairs on my arm. This was an outstanding piece, you have ticked all the boxes. I love the imagery of the chill in scattered corners laid bare. I love how you made it even more scenic with the frosty morning knoll. We don’t look deeply enough at how amazing it is to see our breath before us out there in the cold. Thank you for making that image real for us.
