Loving Life

A Moment Somewhere Between Here and There

Walking down the road

A thought strikes me hard.

Of how far I have come,

Not just measured in yards.

I find I'm looking forward to tomorrow,

And I'm happy in my life

Before, each day was endured

Dreading inevitable strife

My outlook didn't change in a moment

But somewhere between all the moments

In the infinite space between heartbeats

Joy emerged from life’s components

There was no one single event

That changed life from glum to delight

But a thousand, a million little things

That brought me through an endless night

There is no guide for everyone

Each person must find their own way.

But the path through the darkness is there

And each dawn brings a new day.

September 11th is R U OK Day 2025, a day dedicated to mental health and checking in with the people in our lives. It was a surprise to reflect on how I’m doing and realise that I may be the closest to answering “yes” that I’ve ever been.

This is beautiful, Natasja, and I'm glad to hear that you're closer to answer "yes" to that question. I wish that every day was treated like R U OK Day. People need to be asked that more often than we would like to admit.
