I’m Begging
“Things You Can’t Say Out Loud” Challenge
Perfect peace!
What a relief!
We’re travelling so well
Life’s… ‘Oh so swell!’
Smiles all around
No scowls, not even a frown
Until I…
put a foot wrong
Ushering in my ‘swan song’
One careless interruption
Triggers an ‘atomic’ eruption
Or an earthquake in the depths of the Mariana Trench
A tsunami threatens to drench
Sincere apologies offered profusely
A waste of breath… they’re treated obtusely.
I wish…
we could calmly discuss
this, before it snowballs into a fuss
Each proffer our side
Refrain from stooping to deride or criticism so snide
But alack and alas
It seems too ‘grave’ a trespass
To forgive and forget
Instead it festers in sorrow and regret.
Why can’t
I say this aloud
Unwrap the suffocating shroud
From our languishing lives?
Put away our sharp knives?
I love you!
I promise you, it’s true!
Instead, I…
Make valid excuses
Rather than utter abuses
For both you and for me
If only I could make you see
You’re not the only one struggling
With limitations, challenges you’re juggling
Each of us are intrinsically flawed
I wait ’til your anger has thawed
Suggest help from outside
But the suggestion’s denied
I beg, demand and plead
But you insist there’s no need.
Why can’t…
I say it out loud?
Am I too proud
Or just plain afraid?
“We must deal with this mess we’ve made!”
The time’s come…
I’ve prayed and I’ve prayed
We can no longer delay nor evade
Our desperate need for help… it’s a fact
The time has come — almost passed — for us to act!

Such a sad truth of life...sometimes apologies aren't enough.
Clever rhymes throughout, Angie. And the message was loud and clear. -Sincere apologies offered profusely A waste of breath… they’re treated obtusely.- Loved that line...
Excellence as always Angie! It's always a treat when you publish
Really loved this Angie - sometimes it's hard to have a really honest conversation if the other person doesn't want to. This was fab.
Very relatable and very vulnerable, Angie! So many layers to navigate with the tool of communication! This is very well crafted from start to finish. Really strong entry for the challenge!
You’ve captured that tension between love and frustration so honestly.
Communication is definitely the most important thing, especially effective communication. Having an open discussion as mature adults is the best way to go. Loved your poem!
