Villanelle

I surfaced this morning itching to write

But Life swept right in and consumed my day

Alas, all my thoughts scattered and took flight.

*

They tiptoed back and became dynamite

My mind was exploding, an old cliche…

I surfaced this morning itching to write.

*

Futilely, I strove to escape my plight

But my work held Time captive by its sway

Alas, all my thoughts scattered and took flight.

*

Creative notions bloomed, seeking daylight

Rhythm and rhyme, a poetic bouquet

I surfaced this morning itching to write.

*

The tyranny of the urgent, held tight

Denying all hope of inspired display

Alas, all my thoughts scattered and took flight.

*

Imagination burned bright, joined the fight

Could a holiday chase this curse away?

I surfaced this morning itching to write

Alas, all my thoughts scattered and took flight.

*

Written for the challenge below and inspired by the common frustration of being time poor and unable to write.

Very nice, Angie. I think we all forget sometimes that 'life gets in the way,' but that is life!

Sometimes it happens! I’ve found that’s my mind telling me/forcing me to let the ideas marinade a bit more

I have been experiencing bouts of this feeling for a while myself, so you have said it really well for some of us. Holiday blues and too much food, world troubles and such...but inspiration jumps in when needed. fight them blues,
