My skin absorbs the sun's warmth like the asphalt in front of us.

Wind rushes in my ears, carrying with her echoes of boundless laughter.

I smell the world in the air, the earth, the heat...

nearby sweetgrass lingers on my tongue.

Above me, blue jays dance in an open and endless afternoon sky.

Open and endless afternoon sky - what a line! Makes me long for spring and summer!

  • I smell the world..., oops, I guess not after two sinus surgeries. I hear the wind..., oops, no, that's just my tinnitus acting up. I see the blue jays up above..., but only if I'm wearing my trifocals & have them positioned correctly. But that doesn't mean I don't love this poem, Sleepy, 'cause I do! I also love Banff, Alberta. Lake Louise has the bluest water I've ever seen. My brothers & I were told that there was a trail that went all the way around to the other side of the lake, so we decided to hike it. They didn't tell us that it went only to the right & didn't circle all the way around. We went to the left & hiked cross country until we met the trail on the other side. Then we decided to continue on to the glacier where the bright blue area where it was melting looked to be about 8-10 feet high. Turned out it was at least three stories. On the way we saw both bear & wolf tracks that were fairly fresh. By the time we got to the glacier the sun was already behind the mountains & it was getting dark. So we ran all the way back to the chalet parking lot. Banff is also where we learned that you can sunburn your eyeballs if you go skiing for an entire day without sunglasses. That was two weeks of misery for the four of us, lol.
