The Wow Factor - Mastering the Art of Picture Edits on Your Phone
For as long as I can remember taking pictures has been my joyful hobby. At one point in my life, I even considered becoming a professional photographer. I chose a different path, but photography remains a very significant part of my life.

Photo Finish
Above is an unedited photo I captured with my phone this past Thanksgiving. The day had been primarily overcast and drizzly, but my niece’s horses were kind enough to strike a pose just as the clouds broke and the sun’s beams slanted through the trees. The resultant picture came out underexposed and drabber than desired; it would take my access to and working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop to combat the deficiencies in my phone’s less-than-stellar camera. The following brief tutorial will outline the steps taken to better bring out this scene’s natural beauty.

Finding My Artistic Me
I recently attended a conference for professional photographers put on by the Professional Photographers of America. A message kept resonating through the hours of video conferences that I watched that weekend--be different. In a marketplace full of the same, different makes you stand out, and makes you be able to live the life of a successful artist. In other words, create, create, and be YOU!

Marking Moments: Photo Collage
I am someone who really enjoys photography and editing as a way of marking memorable moments. I am not by any means a professional, but I like to snap a photo of a beautiful sunrise or my friends laughing or a good plate of food. When it comes to editing, one of my favorite things to do is compile a collage of pictures that I took over the course of a month, a week, or even just a day, to mark special memories.

Digital Manipulation 101: How to Edit Photos with GIMP
Photo editing and digital manipulation. I've been playing with them for over twenty years now. To be clear, I am not claiming expertise - like I said, I've been playing with editing photos on computers. Anything I've learned about the process has come from opening a digital manipulation program, opening a file within that program, and clicking around. And I have learned a few useful things.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? What isn't wrong with this picture? If you can't tell, it is a hand forged copper cuff, attempting to look cute enough for a customer to buy if they see it on my website, or even more important, for a jury to allow into a coveted art fair. This picture not only won't take the cake, it doesn't know what cake is. Snapseed can help.

The Joy Of Clips And Canva
I am completely amazed at the evolution of photo editing. How we alter photos have gotten easier and easier and easier. Now, it has gotten so easy that my 9 (almost 10) year old son can do it. The technology we have to edit almost everything under the sun is absolutely mind-blowing. Back in the 1980’s, I had no clue what photo editing was. In the 1990’s, I knew about photo editing, but I thought it was one of the most complicated projects to complete. At the time, I assumed that only professionals as smart as Albert Einstein can only perform this task. By the time we entered the 21st Century, I became very aware that anyone can edit photos or photoshop. However, the tools I had made the process very time consuming for me. Now that smartphones are extremely popular, and there are many apps to choose from, I can now edit photos in as little as five minutes – depending on how I want my photos to look at the end.

Edit Your Photos to Sell Your Product and Brand
Ask any entrepreneur and he or she will say that this profession is not for the faint of heart. A majority of entrepreneurs begin by funding their own business. And this means we are a one person show. For me, this includes everything from making my products by hand and from scratch to taking and posting the product pictures and listings. Branding is important. But you can’t really brand unless you actually know what your mission is and what you and your product stand for. For crafting entrepreneurs like myself, this often is directly or closely tied to our personal lives, journey and history.
