What The Husky
Day 2: Christmas morning is always an exciting time, especially when you get to see the smiles on your child/childrens faces. Well the morning after we got Bloo was like that except, a lot more smelly and alot less smiling. The excitement of having a new puppy was still running through all our veins, however, we forgot just that, she is a puppy! Essentially she is a furry baby; and just like a baby she pooped, peed and was getting into things she was not supposed to.

Cats & Doors
My cat, Sammie, does not like closed doors. He does not like closed front doors, back doors, closet doors, cabinet doors or bathroom doors. When he sees a closed door, it must be opened, and he must go through it. He is very agile with opening the kitchen cabinet doors and is known by the other domesticated felines in the neighborhood as Flash because he can dart out the back door before the door is halfway open…no matter where he is in the house at the time. But he especially does not like closed bedroom doors. This is in direct conflict with my need to keep my bedroom door closed while I am sleeping. Therefore, we share a nightly ritual wherein Sammie wakes me up around 2:30am scratching at my bedroom door to get in.

Rex
I got two gifts for my eighth birthday, but neither was what I’d asked for. The first was a dog, who I named Rex, and the second was a little black notebook, that I also named Rex. I did not have a particularly good imagination at the time, and I proved it by naming both gifts after a third Rex… my dad, Rex McCallister, who gave me the gifts. I loved all three Rexes more than I loved just about anything else as a kid.

Baloo
I awake on the 192nd day of quarantine to a pounding on my door. It’s September and a heat wave makes the days foggier, stickier. Even now at, what— 6:43am, my thighs have suctioned. More knocking. My feet are heavy. I remember the virus, find a mask. Briefly, I’m grateful for its ability to trap my morning breath.

Pangolin Powers: 100 dubious claims about the world’s only scaly mammal
1. Pangolins curl into a ball to protect themselves from predators and awkward social situations. 2. Pangolin tongues are longer than their bodies, when not in use they are curled up within their chest. Just like a human! (Other people have tongues like that, right?)

Listen to Your Dog
Listen To Your Dog By Doug Caldwell Chapter One “I guess the most surprising thing we’ve found to date, is how much some dogs swear. When they are excited or upset with something they begin with a river of cussing that becomes more animated the angrier they get. We can now filter that cussing out once the dog’s basic vocabulary and emotional triggers are captured in memory, but it takes a few hours of use for the software to learn these patterns for that to happen, and the higher the cuss filter is set, the longer it takes the software to learn. So at first we recommend the filter be as low as possible to make it easier.”

All We Need
I trudged up the rugged slope and pulled my hood down lower, my boots slipping on wet rock. A few ewes eyed me warily in the distance. The wind howled like a pack of coyotes, whipping rain into my face and trickling icy droplets down the back of my neck.
