The Red Sonja Movie We've Been Waiting For
I've been waiting for the Red Sonja movie for over 15 years. The project was first announced in 2009 and had long been in development hell with various writers, directors and actors attached to it a different points. The principal photography was done back in 2022 and for a while it looked like the movie wouldn't come out even though it'd already been made. It finally hit the big screen on August 13, 2025.

Nonbinary Mainstream Media
If you were an alien that came to Earth today, you might come to believe that transgenderism was invented by the Biden administration for the express purpose of destroying America. SAD. That is not actually true though! People who don't fit in gender binaries have always existed.

Christmas in Vintage Hollywood
Scholars now believe that that Christmas has existed for at least 115 years. This is an exciting revelation, as Christmas was previously only believed to have begun in 1989. This makes Christmas much older than the previously thought. Below is documentation of how early people celebrated the holiday. While records frequently mention "cheesecake" no deserts can be found in the photos for some reason...

A Mission: Impossible Film Franchise Retrospective
Watching Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One recently and I felt like there were references I was missing. I knew I had seen the previous films, but only once each and years, if not decades, ago. So here’s my takeaways from rewatching the entire series.

Six Flags: Get Your Act Together
Six Flags has never took theming as seriously as Disney World, but there are different lands in the park. When I worked at Six Flags St. Louis as a teen, employees had different outfits based on the themes. As a ticket seller at the front of the park I was categorized as being in the “1904 World’s Fair” section and had a red and white pinstripe shirt and bow tie to give me the look of an old timey carnival barker (that is when the wardrobe department didn’t accidentally give me a blouse). Even as I worked there in the 1990’s though, those outfits were replaced with generic polos worn by employees across the park -- this was one of many small changes that represented a decreasing commitment to motif. As new attractions have been added that fit less but remnants of old themes remained there has been an increasingly incoherent feel to the park. I’m going to go through the different rides and how well they fit into their respective lands.

Sovereign Citizens on the Road
“Sovereign citizen” is a catchall phrase referring to a variety of anti-government individuals and groups who share some common beliefs and behaviors. For various ahistorical reasons, they believe they can just opt out of living under a government. Becoming a sovereign citizen is a bit like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy, you just sort of decide it, but nothing has actually changed in the eyes of the law.

The Most Dangerous Waterslides
Waterslides may look tamer than roller coasters at a glance, but their simplicity can make them more dangerous. Where in a roller coaster you've got a bar or harness holding you in place, on a water slide you typically have more room for shenanigans. Also while roller coasters obviously need inspection and regulation, it's not as self evident for waterslides: but as you will see, they clearly do need oversight.

A James Bond Musical Mystery
Not every song written for a James Bond movie actually makes into the movie. It's not unusual for there to be multiple rejected theme songs. An archetypal song was Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, by Shirley Bassey. also sung by Dionne Warwick, that was intended as a theme for Thunderball.

Funko Pops We Need to Exist
Funko Inc. is a toy company that seems to be on a quest to archive all of pop culture in the form of macrocephaly toy figurines, called "Funko Pops!" Think of any iconic movie, TV show or comic book character and there will likely be multiple versions of Funko Pops. Also though, think of a cult property that most people haven't heard of, and it will have Funko Pops. Go ahead, check, I'll wait. Scratch that, I'm in a hurry, you'll have to check later. There are even idiosyncratic figurines, such as ones of long defunct airlines.
