Q & A with Angela Noel at Big Mack Bully Ranch
Q & A with Angela Noel at Big Mack Bully Ranch By Sarah Elizabeth I recently had an open discussion with Angela Noel, of Big Mack Bully Ranch, about the topic of breeding. I have noticed the divide on this subject between dog owners, activists, and dog lovers alike. I wanted to understand more on this matter, and clear up some of the negative stereotypes about breeders while still acknowledging that buying from a puppy mill is not something we advocate for.

Helen Keller is her Nickname
I guess that I should start by providing you with some information about my Helen Keller. Her name is Tehya according to the Veterinarian's office, however since she is deaf it does not matter what you call her. She can't hear you anyway. Her daily name, or nickname, if you will is Helen Keller. While you may be asking " Wasn't Helen Keller both deaf AND blind? Then why is her nickname Helen Keller?" Well the truth of the matter is, when I brought her into my home she was completely deaf and about 85% blind. As her age has progressed, her eyesight has diminished to approximatel 95% blindness.

East of Puppertowne
“Beach, beach, beach, beach, beach, beach,” he repeated in a singsongy voice that honestly got me a little excited. But the more excited he sounded the more I poured it on until we were both jumping up and down acting like two mad marionettes tangled up in their strings.

What the HUSKY
Day 1: Our family has been slowly looking to get a dog or more specifically a puppy for a little while now but today would be the day that our search ended. It was about 9pm and I had just finished helping my daughter with a project of hers, when my husband started yelling at me from the bathroom. Naturally, I went running in there, thinking something was wrong; only to find him sitting on the porcelain throne, talking about "Get the kid ready, we're going to Ontario." I was speechless. Finally, after the shock wore off, I asked, "Why exactly are we going to Ontario and 9pm?" My husband responded, "This lady agreed to give us a husky for $450, look babe they are perfect and it's a great price, come on it's perfect." He was acting like a kid in a candy shop. Let me just say by the way, I really did not want a puppy puppy because of how much work they are. I already have 4 kids, 5 if you count my husband, work, school and try to find a little time for myself. But, per usual i gave in quickly and by 9:45pm we were on the road to Ontario.

A Kitten Story
It all started on a sunny, but cold morning in July in the Capital City of Australia. Canberra in winter. On a day off, while I was sorting through my emails and whatnots I received a photo of little black fluffs in between matresses that my husband had just found. I was two tiny kittens!

Animal Rescue
There is a soft place in my heart for those who participate in animal rescue. They give so much to save critters that might normally be put down or left to fend for themselves. Have you ever heard of a chicken rescue? No? Let me tell you why…true story.

Hercules the African Pygmy Hedgehog
I'm not sure if I adopted my hedgehog at the beginning, middle or end of the hedgehog craze, but it was something I had on my bucket list for a couple of years when I went into a pet supply store and saw a real pygmy hedgehog for the first time. As soon as I laid eyes on him, I knew I had to have him. I was going to call him Harriet, but as he was a boy, the name 'Hercules' stuck as soon as my boyfriend suggested it; partly because I love the Disney film and because it was apt for a tiny but very strong little creature.

Skylar and the Book
It was an uneventful afternoon sitting by the hospital bed by my father, who was inevitably not going to be coming back home. My mother was sitting beside me weeping. The grim news that his transplanted kidney was septic came right before Halloween. My mother had a stroke before Thanksgiving the month before. Christmas was a complete uncertainty. Our family was truly on hard times. I was looking out the window of the rural single story hospital. In Texas, the winter weather doesn’t always feel like snowy fields and ice flurries, but more just dry and barren land and who knows what temperature. Especially in the “Hill Country” some call it here in central parts of Texas. Maybe it is just what some of my family and friends called it. I wanted to cry but I didn’t have any tears left. I felt a painful numb. To tell you the truth I’m not sure if the numbness was a blessing or a curse. On one hand I felt like I was too emotional at times and I needed to hold it together for my family. On the other hand I felt like not crying was a sign my heart was turning cold from a life of pain and suffering. Hardships were a familiar thing when it came to my life.

Don't Cry Wolf
I got one of the most secluded campsites available. I was just kind of... done with people. I wanted to look at the stars and listen to the trees. I could have just slept in my Jeep, but I figured sleeping on rocks was part of the experience. I put down the tarp a distance away from the established firepit and started putting poles together.

A Tail of 18 Cats
Consider me an animal lover. I have five horses, over 100 head of cattle, five dogs, and now over twenty cats. This is possible because I live on a 2000 acre ranch in Eastern New Mexico, have a large hay barn and two shops. The cattle and horses are pasture feeding through the winter and my dogs stay in a large yard. Now the issue of my cats. I keep cats around because I have two girls age seven and eight that love playing in the hay barn and shops, most of the time barefooted and ignoring their immediate surroundings. With the ever present threat of rattle snakes, bull snakes, skunks, rats and other pests, my barn cats are worth their weight in gold.
