Korky's best day ever
There’s nothing we as a family like more than a day at the beach. We can go year-round in all types of weather. The beaches in Ireland tend not to be warm or tropical however. The fresh ocean air of the west coast has a certain healing effect and the waves crashing in and creeping back out is just as therapeutic as a session of vipasanna meditation. Many families go to the beach to get away from the routine of their everyday lives. Some go for a refreshing swim in the cool water, some take a stroll around the various cliff walks and some lounge about on the sandy beaches. We usually do a combination of all those and we have a particular family member who enjoys the occasion just as much if not more than us – our 4-year-old dog, Korky.

Fitz
A rainy 60-degree day in February might not seem like the best weather for a hike in the woods, but for two weeks we have been taking walks through parks and our neighborhood that was covered in so much ice you might have thought we were in Arendelle. A rain storm had come through overnight, and the cold weather kept all the trees, bushes, even grass perfectly encapsulated by centimeters of ice for weeks. It was beautiful, peaceful and serene to walk alone with Fitz while most people stayed cozily locked indoors. I couldn’t believe that this storm hit just weeks before we were to return to school after a year of staying home courtesy of Covid-19. It almost seemed like Mother Nature willed us to never go back and I was torn between whether or not I wanted to.

Fugitives of Night
The streetlamps blazed and the cold air of winter burned through my lungs as the fierce pounding of my shoes against asphalt cracked through the night. Frost crept in from the simple swath of dirty snow and nipped at my fingers as I ran fast and far from the screams echoing down the street but the leather leash clutched desperately in my hand was warm. A tether to the future, it stretched as the ferryman, a dog spattered with black spots of night across a canvas of fur as white as snow, dragged me forward. Into the dark.
