Jax ;) my ride and die buddy
The day I met Jax was sunny and still a little chilly. I remember visiting some folks and there was a puppy that had been hanging around their house. I instinctively went into recuse mode. Little did I know this choice would be the reason this particular puppy would change my view on companionship and help me change my lifestyle.

Tan, Spot, Oreo and Midnight
It was a cold, winter afternoon, a Sunday. My husband took the kids on an outing just so I could have some me time. So, what to do? Clean house? Nah, I do that every day. Read? Maybe. How about a run? It had been months since I ran. I used to run regularly; I even trained for marathons. Today’s temperature hovered around the mid-thirties; cuddling up with a good book and reading uninterrupted was sounding better by the minute.

Theodore
College freshmen will do some crazy things, but my friends and I, we housed a puppy in our dorm without getting caught. For $100 Teddy could have been your secret too. Now of course after buying a bed, toys, food, and the vet bills he’d be more expensive. How much all that truly cost I can’t remember now. What I do remember are the close calls of hiding Teddy under a coat, or in a backpack to avoid the RAs. I remember us handing him between third floor windows as the RA knocked at the door. I doubt they ever believed me about my TV’s volume being the culprit, but they never stopped us from building a family around our new fuzzy friend.

Every Day's a Party on My Block. Third Place in Life Unleashed Challenge.
There’s an unofficial dog park on our block It’s really just a large lawn, mostly flat but sloping gently toward the middle, originally put there by the developers as an aesthetic way to handle drainage. It’s bounded by streets on two sides, by an alley on one, and by an expanse of cattail-studded brush on the other, the haven of red-tailed blackbirds and white-tailed deer that stretches between the outskirts of our neighborhood and the river.
