The importance of using your voice

When people don't express themselves, they die one piece at a time.

‘‘ The paradox of education is that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated. ’’ – James Baldwin.

This topic is a peculiar one for me, because as an introvert, I tend not to speak and express myself much. So here's a reminder, for me and for whoever you are behind your screen, of the importance of using your voice.

1. | Your voice matters.

Even though it's often tough to put yourself in the spotlight, please understand it's necessary at times. I'm not saying you should become chatty overnight, but it's definitely crucial to express yourself in order to be happy – at least, from time to time.

2. | Your voice is inspiring.

Have you ever thought your voice could change the world ? Because trust me, it can. Wonderful people have achieved incredible things merely by speaking up.

We all know Gandhi and what he did for a fairer India. What's beautiful in his example, is he was an introvert who hadn't always been considered by his peers. He ended up changing his country, without even using violence.

Martin Luther King Jr is also a case to remember. Nowadays, he's considered as one of the personalities who freed black people from racism and oppression. His worldwide famous speech, delivered in Washington on Aug 28th, 1963 is still acknowledged as one of the most powerful ever given; if you've studied it in class, you know its efficiency.

More recently, Greta Thunberg became the spokesperson for the fight against climate change, lauching calls for protests conveyed all over the world. Her being autistic and taking up this important issue all the way to the UNO is all in her honor.

Yet, they all started by simply using their voices. Today, they are known as leaders for their causes.

What I mean by all these people is you, using your voice, can actually become and change anything you can think of.

3. | Your voice is unstoppable. With the Internet nowadays, you can express your voice like never before; and it can reach people you would've never imagine. Whatever you post is here to stay, because it can be hidden but never really deleted. That makes what you have to say untouchable. People can stumble upon your post, be moved by it in a way or another, and that takes your voice to a whole other dimension: your speech is truly unstoppable. And if that's not an amazing chance, then I don't know what is.
