The Day I Stopped Waiting for the Perfect Moment

How Letting Go of “Someday” Changed My Life Forever

By Fazal HadiPublished 7 months ago 3 min read

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been waiting.

Waiting for the right time to chase my dreams.

Waiting for the perfect moment to tell someone how I truly feel.

Waiting for everything to magically fall into place — when I’m more confident, when I have more money, when the fear finally leaves.

But life doesn’t wait. It passes by in quiet moments of hesitation, in opportunities missed, and in words left unsaid.

It took me years to understand this. But the day I stopped waiting for the perfect moment… everything changed.

The Illusion of “The Right Time”

Growing up, I believed in this mythical thing called "the perfect moment." I’d tell myself:

“I’ll apply for that job when I’m more experienced.”

“I’ll share my writing when it’s flawless.”

“I’ll take that trip when I have more money.”

“I’ll fall in love when I’m completely healed.”

It sounded reasonable. But deep down, I was scared — of rejection, failure, judgment, disappointment. So, I wrapped my fear in the pretty packaging of "patience" and "preparation."

Days turned into months. Months quietly became years. My dreams gathered dust on the shelf of “someday.”

The Wake-Up Call

It wasn’t a dramatic life event that shook me awake — no tragedy, no grand revelation.

It was an ordinary Tuesday.

I was scrolling through my phone, mindlessly tapping through social media, when I stumbled upon a post that simply read:

"If you’re waiting for the perfect moment, this is it."

I laughed at first. But the words stuck with me like a splinter in my mind.

Why was I waiting? What was I really afraid of? Was I going to keep living in this cycle of delay, watching life pass me by, convinced that one magical day I’d suddenly be “ready”?

The truth hit me hard: the perfect moment doesn’t exist. And even if it did, it wasn’t guaranteed to show up.

Taking the First Scary Step

The very next day, I did something bold — I submitted a short story I’d written to an online platform.

It wasn’t perfect. I wasn’t completely confident. But I hit “publish” anyway.

My heart raced. My inner critic screamed, “It’s not good enough.” But I reminded myself that done is better than perfect.

To my surprise, the world didn’t end. In fact, the feedback was… encouraging.

That tiny act of courage cracked open a door I had kept shut for far too long.

The Ripple Effect

One small decision led to another.

I applied for that job, even though I didn’t check every box.

I booked a solo trip, even though I felt nervous.

I started saying “yes” to opportunities that scared me.

I shared my feelings with someone important, even though I was terrified of rejection.

Were there failures? Absolutely.

Were there awkward moments? Plenty.

But with each step, my confidence grew. I realized the fear never fully disappears — you just learn to walk beside it.

And here’s the most beautiful part: life rewards action, not hesitation.

What I Learned

Life doesn’t pause while we wait to be perfect. It unfolds with or without our permission. Opportunities rarely knock twice. And sometimes, the only thing standing between you and the life you want… is your decision to begin.

I wish I could go back to my younger self, waiting on the sidelines of life, and tell them:

“Stop waiting. You’re ready enough. The perfect moment is the one you choose to create.”

Moral of the Story:

The perfect moment is a myth. Progress, growth, and joy come when you stop waiting and start living. Courage doesn’t come from waiting for fear to leave — it comes from acting despite it.
