What Does it Take to Be Successful?
Cover image-Wonders x Andrea Wan With what power do we move through our spaces when we feel like we are failing or falling through the cracks? Is there some source, think Atlantis power of the former Kings, that our peers and celebrities have tapped into, that allows them to pick themselves back up and re-assert themselves when they feel like all hope is lost? In simple reality the answer is no. Unfortunately due to the complexities of human nature, there is no simple answer for this question because while the answers we think we are looking for are not directly accessible via flying machine or single blue pill, there is more truth to this idea than the world at large gives credit. Looking back to where I was a year ago, my life has changed in so many ways. In truth, I am not anywhere near as happy as I was at that time. I had two jobs that kept me working around the clock, bills paid months in advance, and money to spend on myself and others. So I sit alone in my apartment, 2:00 a.m., unemployed and nervous as hell to move forward, especially during this global pandemic! Reports come from every angle encouraging me to fear my body, my neighbors, my country, and myself. There is no right or wrong at this moment in time, so the rights we believe individually galvanize us into believing that if not everyone is doing things like me, they are failing or we are failing or the country is failing! (I do believe in some ways the country is failing however…) The prospect of engaging anything other than sitting at home and not spending money is one that, for a lack of better words, devastates me. I love to socialize and explore, and most of all, make money to spend money! This feeling has been overwhelming me from before the pandemic started and I hit a wall where I am truly having to ask myself, what do I do now? Where do I access power now that I feel my light is dimming? How do I make money when everyone is applying for online jobs and I have the qualifications of a 6+ year food service worker? The incense and candles I once trusted to get me through stressful nights are burned out, and I have resorted to researching Youtube home workout videos to exhaust energy and erase my FUPA in 2 weeks more times than I can count this month. The FUPA is large and I can either dedicate myself to the cause or love her for who she is (I do love my lil FUPA though, so I am accepting of the reality where she stays with me forever).

The Creature That is Me
“Ready for a story?” The creature licks its lips, before twisting them into a long, thin smile. I see the little girl stand before it in the black, wet room. Pretty butterfly clips sit in her damp hair, and there is blood running from her eyes. My head pounds.

5 Life-Changing Lessons From a Plane Crash Survivor.
Your life's about to be transformed. Are you ready? My life changed forever on December 10, 2005. I boarded a plane in Abuja, Nigeria, with 60 of my classmates, to fly home from boarding school for Christmas. With 15 minutes left in the flight, the pilot announced that we would be landing at the airport shortly. There was some seemingly normal turbulence—and then it progressed dramatically. Passengers were confused and nervous, and a woman in the back of the plane screamed, triggering panic. It was clear that the plane was malfunctioning. I felt a kind of awe, as it was impossible to reconcile what was happening to reality. I reached across the aisle to hold my friend’s hand, and we prayed. I remember hearing a loud, scraping metal sound, and after that I don't remember anything else.

Cruising on a Ship
It was a bright and sunny morning and Mike woke up to have his early morning jog. He enjoyed the beautiful weather as he jogged across the park. Mike was not alone and few other people were also jogging along early in the morning. Mike greeted all the people he came across while jogging. After his jog Mike went home and greeted his family. Mike kissed his wife and kids and said good morning to them. Mike sat down with his family to have breakfast. Mike and his wife had some coffee, while their 2 kids had a bowl of cereal. While the family was enjoying their breakfast, Mike surprised his family with tickets to a cruise ship. The whole family was very happy to go traveling on a cruise ship. The kids were jumping up and down in excitement. Mike and his family made all the preparations to board the cruise ship. Mike collected all his things and took his family on the bus, which was heading towards the docks. From the docks they would depart on their family adventure. Everyone was so excited as they waited on line to board the cruise ship. It was a huge ship with many people going on board. When passengers board a ship to go on a cruise they are happy and overjoyed. Mike and his family are finally on the cruise ship. Those on land see the ship move farther and farther away. The ship travels deep into the middle of the ocean, until it can no longer be seen to the people still on the land. People are laughing and enjoying their time on the cruise ship. Mike and his family enjoy all the different activities the cruise ship has to offer. They also enjoyed a amazing view of the vast ocean in front of their eyes. They are also enjoying the beautiful weather with a nice breeze from the ocean mist. All of the sudden dark clouds start to appear and rain starts to fall from the sky with a violent storm wind. The ship rocks back and forth causing the waves to come aboard the ships. People start to panic as they sway across the ship. Mike tries his best to keep his family safe, and his kids have a terrified look on their faces. The kids have never been more scared in their life. Then they hear the sound of thunder, which terrifies them even more. The lightening that strike the cruise ship almost snatches away their eyesight. Then the ship is submerged in the water as the people start to drown. As we look into the faces of the people we see fear and their eyes are wide open in shock. We take a deeper look into the hearts of the people and see that they are hoping to be saved from this calamity. Immediately after, they are saved and brought back onto the land. Mike and his family are amongst the people saved from this tragedy. Some people are grateful and change for the better, while others are ungrateful and go back to their evil ways. Mike says to his wife and kids, “there is a great lesson to be learned here” and amongst them is to have the necessary precaution when boarding a ship. One must also be grateful for another chance in enjoying a bright and sunny day. Mike says to his family, so which person will you be Grateful or Ungrateful? The kids replied that they will be grateful and optimistic. Mike reassured his kids to not worry and that the future is bright.

Cherry blossom tree in Japan and one broken heart.
Though most widely celebrated in Japan, hanami celebrations have become popular around the world in recent decades. Some of the most popular cherry blossom celebrations in the United States occur in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Macon, Boston and Brooklyn. Here's hoping you get out and enjoy them this spring -- perhaps, even, with a little more history than before.

The Danger of Being Positive All The Time
If there's a quote and/or an expression that I'm really not so into, it's probably... Wait, scratch that... It's definitely "Positive vibes only". To me, this expression sounds so dismissive, irresponsible, and just straight up toxic. Unless you're a robot who is specifically programmed to only be positive and pull out a happy face all the livelong day, there is not a single human being in this world who can be positive all the time.

Love Songs & Chill
I have just created this new playlist of Love songs & Chill mix on Spotify on my laptop. I created this playlist because even though I been through a lot of bad break ups with lots of different Former girlfriends. No matter what I go through in life somehow, I always find my way back to liking a lot of current and old love songs. The songs themselves bring me back to specific times in certain relationships or even friendships as well. It reminds me of the good and bad times, but even though they all ended at least we have our memories of it all between us. During these trying times with being home more often than before without working these days. One thing that I continue to do on a daily basis is to work on myself and to love myself more often than before because if I don’t learn how to start loving myself again, then who will I be able to attract to love me for me and not for what I have or anything else specifically.

Dancing in the Rain
Rainy days used to spark a sense of dread within me. There's something about the cold, wet, grey days that makes me want to hide in bed. Time to wrap myself up in a fuzzy blanket and cocoon until the sun comes back out. These kind of days are the norm for me. I have suffered from depression for many years, and frankly, I will take any excuse to crawl back into my safe, warm bed and avoid the world. As much as I know that I'm not alone in these feelings, sometimes its hard to imagine not feeling like a failure. Motivation is limited most days... if I show up on time to a planned engagement or even to work, its a bit of a miracle.
