How to heal fully and properly.
Imagine a Life
I have long considered myself to be a creative individual, often wearing this part of my being externally during my adolescent formative years. My constructed image screamed “unique” by design; my clothes, my hair, and my choices were all being utilized creatively to embody an essence of individuality. Yet, in retrospect, there existed within me a distinct air of conformity – endeavouring to become perceptually entwined with the image of someone who embodied a creative soul, rather than stoking my own intrinsic creative fire.

Stitches
When I first started to sew, I could barely feel the needle in my hand. It was because I could not feel the needle that I had started sewing. A month earlier, I had broken six bones in an accident, and lost feeling in three of my fingers. The doctors assured me that sensation would come back eventually. The more I used my hands, the quicker it would be.

The Whole Cake
Sweat dripping, breath heavy, sun light leaving. 112 miles in a single run. “Why would you run more than a marathon?” A common question many people have pondered, including myself before the novel COVID pandemic. It’s exhilarating to run a 5k, 10k, or half marathon. 100 miles though? You need a ‘Why’ to do something like that. And how are you going to find inner peace from suffering through a painful distance run?

My Oasis
What does it mean to be at peace? I feel like there are many answers to that question and some may even find the question itself disturbing. I don’t know about you but I automatically think of someone who has died. After all, we describe our dead loved ones as “being at peace” or we wish that they “rest in peace.” It may even prompt someone to ask is it even possible to be at peace when one is still alive?

Piecing it together
And to think, I almost cancelled that January sewing class. It was cold, I remember that. I road my bike to the west end of Toronto, quickly ate a few momos from a Nepalese hole in the wall, and then ducked into the sewing studio as it began to snow.

Discovering Geometry.
I feel a connection to the earth when I create geometric art and a reverence for this sacred art form. I sense a web around me and feel connected to the philosophical essence from which this art originated. According to Greek language Geometry means “earth measure”. Initially round pebbles called “Khalix” were used by ancient world thinkers in substitute of written numbers.

My lighthouse in the Storm
I was overwhelmed, lost and tattered. I had found myself in this horrific, raging storm that had no end in sight. My only source of hope was that glaring green light in the distance and it shined brighter than the sun to me. I was alone trudging my way through this storm the best I could with my goal being to reach that lighthouse. Until one day I came upon a cave and found refuge from the storm. I didn’t know how long I would be there but I was glad to have found shelter even for a moment.

Dancing For Life
I am more of myself when I am dancing. Liturgical, contemporary, Latin, ballet, jazz, hip hop, Soca, modern, African flare mixes together and causes me to be free. As a child my parents couldn’t afford the professional dance lessons I dreamed about daily. Shelter, food, and clothing were more pressing matters and rightfully so. However, I didn’t let that stop me from twirling and leaping around the house in my slippers. Any style of song would do, no matter how upbeat or gloomy the notes played. When the music hit my ears, I hit the floor. It always brought me peace and merriment. It has always healed me.

Forget What Other People Expect and Do What’s Right for You
Your time is restricted, so don't spend it on another person's life. "- Steve Jobs At the point when we result in these present circumstances world, we know nothing. We are for the most part results of more seasoned social orders and structure our own arrangement of convictions about things that are called right or off-base, set in stone, normal or exceptional.
