happiness
Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.

Jacob looked down at the bottle he found in his hand, not remembering when he last drank from it. He tilted it back hoping for anything but only found the smell of cheap liquor. Panhandling had been hard of late... there's a sweet spot between hard luck and desperation where the change really flowed. He had been on the wrong side of desperation for too long.

The Bookseller
The streets of New York City were dripping with water, making it almost impossible to drive. With no taxis and Ubers on the road, Margot Steenhold was trapped outside with no way home. She relied on these forms of transportation, and hoped one would magically appear in front of her. But like everything, things weren't as easy as clicking your heels. Her phone had died halfway through the night while she partied with strangers, wasting away her twenty-thousand dollar lottery win as much as she could, oblivious to the raging rainstorm. All she could do now was use her coat as an umbrella as she carelessly strode down the street, fortunate that there were no cars in sight, besides the stray cat she saw scatter toward an alley, as it eyed her with its' narrowed glowing eyes. "What are you looking at, you stupid cat?" Margot spat at it, her words slurred together, but enough for the cat to turn away and flee.

The Hermit
Watching the flickering movement of the candle dancing before me, I breathed, and with this moment knew that something I had always thought to be untrue could no longer hold me in doubt. Here I was thinking all my life that I was crazy as all the small coincidences were now getting louder and louder and could no longer keep me stuck.

3 Things Genuinely Happy People Don’t Do
Ask yourself, are you happy? Genuinely happy? If you answered no, well, why not? You are capable of experiencing a surreal type of happiness. Aren’t you? Of course, you are! Unless you have some genetic defect denying you of true happiness, then you — just like everybody else — can, in fact, be happy.

the stars that lie to you
One look at me and most people will tell you I am the physical embodiment of a Sagittarius. I’m overly enthusiastic about nearly anything, I’m generally an overly positive person and of course, I have a fiery passion for life. I’m honest to a fault, impatient, and often times very tactless because of this. And having to do an essay that describes me and my obvious lack of modesty is right up my alley as well. The Sagittarius is considered the happiness sign, and because of that I can tell you, yes, in fact, I am very happy. I believe in my sign so much, that I will look up my zodiac sign and make sure the person I’m dating is good compatibility. In fact, I’ve used that line, “our zodiac signs don’t match” to not go on a date. (Feel free to use that as well.) Let’s look at a brief outline of astrology’s history.

Everyone Deserves Happiness
Everyone Deserves Happiness One thing I always loved is paper the smell, the feel, there was only one thing that topped my love of paper…NOTEBOOKS!!! Oh, notebooks are wonderful, though my family and friends are sweet, but misguided in this aspect of my love of notebooks. They think it is the cute quote, the pretty pictures or since I am an artist the handmade notebook. It is the classic notebook that makes my heartstrings sing with the hard cover and rounded corners and if there’s an elastic enclosure, I feel giddy just thinking, it just makes things feel so extravagant. The gifts of common notebooks though sweet are never used. They remain boxed up to either be secretly regifted to others or the possibility of someday gaining my favor.

How to Love Your Luscious Life
I have not been having my favorite year. Like everyone else, I’ve been trying to make the best of it, but also like everyone else, I’ve had my own share of grief and discomfort. But I keep reminding myself that this year still counts. We’re still living it — even if we’re not quite living it in the way we wanted when the year first began.

Stepping into My Power
One moment I’m sitting in my bed with tea in one hand and my phone in the other mindlessly scrolling on the internet and the next I’m nose deep in my laptop typing away fueled by courage and inspiration. All of the words I’ve been hoarding in my journals, my notes app, random saved word docs—all coming to life as I step into the arena, step into my power and answer my call to courage.

Stuck Between a Rut and a Wild Place
There's just something about staying up until 3am on a weekday. After a year of meticulously keeping a sleep schedule... or not so meticulously... I miss the spontaneity of letting the night flow on until the only sounds left are my heartbeat and the clicks of a keyboard. I miss the death of the world under blackness or moonlight while listening to the wind sing through the darkness behind the thin glass of my windows. Of course I exchanged the midnight hours for the scarlet gold of the morning sun. It's beautiful in it's own way, I tell myself, but something about a morning schedule just doesn't sit right with me.
