Sometimes, when I'm alone in my own world I like to think of what would've happened if I had done things differently. Don't we all?
If, perhaps, I had joined a band, being the avid musician that I was back in a certain period of time. Or if I had stuck to the path of continued education, maybe things would've been different. This isn't about me. This is about you.
This is about what you can do as a human being living within the age of unlimited technological innovation. Yeah, sure, everything's already been done once before. If you enjoy it, then why not? Pursue your happiness regardless of someone else's misfortune.
"Don't let the world bring you down. Not everyone here is that f*cked up and cold." To quote one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. We all have that one thing that we've always wanted to pursue, the one thing we've always been so good at. For me, it was computers, and bass guitars. Oh, and my natural vocal abilities, but those are slipping away from me.
Time is cruel in some cases... but I digress. The best thing for us as Human Beings on Planet Earth, the third planet from the sun in this massive Solar System comprised of many different forms of amazement, is to know ourselves. We must discover ourselves, we must discover the world around us, and we must pay attention to what our cosmic brothers and sisters are doing on this planet while we're alive. Discover what our Earth is capable of.
One thing I've wanted to do as an artistic human being is to go out and map the night sky, to keep track of stars in certain locations. Deep down I know we're not alone in this existence and I'm going to prove it to myself. People throughout many generations have always had that need to explore. To know.
To know is to be and to be is to exist. Existence is resistance to compliance and complacency. Be yourself. Take in your innermost thoughts and desires and let it be known to the outside world that we are one in the same, in that we are diverse in thought, different in character, and bold in our pursuit of everlasting wisdom. If then, we discover ourselves and we thrive after the fact... help one another. Be kind to our earthlings and inheritors. Teach people, or learn from them. Give back to communities, as I have not been able.
“I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing.”
― Plato
"And if he is compelled to look straight at the light, will he not have a pain in his eyes which will make him turn away to take in the objects of vision which he can see, and which he will conceive to be in reality clearer than the things which are now being shown to him?”
― Plato
"The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
-Plato
My goal as an artist is to inspire and to be inspired, to aspire to be the character my dreams have always wanted me to be. As a person, you have the will, the opportunity to be so much more than what family tells you to be, what you observe, what you know. Our boundaries are limitless, our gaze is narrow. Broaden the horizons through research, and find the type of person you can become. Live to serve yourself and others.
One of the biggest influential factors of learning, for me, have been shows on TV that are fictional, but science fictional with a real-world spin, perhaps something that happens in a fictional narrative that includes events that actually happened throughout history. Those have been my favorite types of areas to learn from, especially in the time-travel realm and the mysteries behind the science of all of it. That genre to me is inspirational, although I've yet to do anything with it.
Live. We must.
