How Do I Do It?

Sometimes People Ask

Introduction

I'm often asked how do I know about this or that, or how I find things to write about and I think the answer is fairly simple, and i will answer this with experiences from my past that have shaped who I am today, and how I seem to know so much about things.

So Have I Got A Big Brain?

No bigger or smaller than anyone else's, I do have a problem memorising certain things and then realise that I am surprised that I know others. At school, I couldn't remember quotes from plays, but I knew the stories. In maths, I could remember how to do certain calculations in my head but I think I started to lose it with calculus and quadratic equations.

When I took the Law exam for business studies I got a score of 40%, the minimum for a pass, and I think the adjudicator just made that up. My coursework was good because I could research it and look things up, but not in an exam situation.

Throughout school, I loved reading, especially mythology and stuff that was out of the ordinary. TV and film were adventures, science fiction and horror. One of my favourite films ever is "Forbidden Planet" and all this gives me ideas for my own creations, and I know it influenced "Star Wars".

I had a couple of jobs then scammed my way into computer programming, and learned how to ask for advice on how to do things, and I always found a solution for what needed doing.

My second contract was the only one that I have ever been sacked from. It the twelve months after I started (I was there for five months) the manager had a 95% staff turnover on their section, so it wasn't me.

The computer they used was a DEC/VAX and the joke was that the manuals weighed more than the computer. When I asked where the manuals were I was told that as a contractor I should not need manuals.

This was pre-internet. Needless to say, I knew how it would end, but shall we say I had a longer Christmas holiday than I had originally planned, which was good for me.

This was just part of my gathering experience to make me more marketable in the job market, and all through this I harboured hopes of writing a book, and this was pre-ebook as well, but I wrote things down and had notebooks and folders and ideas.

I also played in a few bands though I still can't play guitar as you can see and hear on my YouTube Channel here:

So How Do I Do It?

The advent of desktops and laptops and the internet means we can do anything we want. I can share music on my channel and thanks to Vocal I can share my writing including this article.

Project Gutenberg paved the way for the ebook explosion by making out of copyright books available digitally, by basically typing the texts in.

So thanks to Project Gutenberg, Vocal and some very supportive friends I finally (self) published my first book, the story is here:

The internet has given me a huge library. Often I don't know how to do things, but often the answer is somewhere in a search engine list.

When I find something useful I will bookmark or store it somewhere or even write a Vocal article about it, like this that I found out about and use on a daily basis.

Conclusion

Anyone can do what I do. If you have access to a computer you can do this. Do not doubt yourself, and feel free to ask someone, even me.

Thank you so much for reading, I might write a poem because I have been inspired by the title of a Beatles song.
