All lives Matter #BLM

There once was a black girl who faced many adversities on a path to reignite her personal magic. She lived within a high crime neighborhood. Fuled by gang violence and gang wars. There are funeral homes and liquor stores on every corner. Sidewalks decorated with bullet casings and broken Hennessy bottles. She resided in a community which felt all consuming living in such a horrid environment she lost herself. How could she inspire that feeling, that spark which had fled from her, her ; #blackgirlmagic.

The girl was a survivor yet the fear of becoming a victim to gun violence in her neighborhood, weighed in on her and she became hyperventilate and depressed.

She began to question her own purpose. It was as though her dreams begin to sink and she was drowning in her own frustration. She was powerless, she sat conflicted as shots blared outside her window. She once felt joy but that had disappeared like the summer sun.

The girl was relentless though. She remembered a sense of pride and yearned to grasp the ambiance that being a black girl brought; it was magic! She decided she had to escape.

One day the girl went to a Walgreens. One Bart ride away from Oakland to San Francisco, California. There, she found calm in being away from her hostile reality.

In Walgreens, she instantly went to the makeup section. She then met Maria, a employee at the cosmetic counter. Maria introduced the girl to a tool that would transform her perspective on her life. That instrument became her holy grail; a 3 month subscription to BirchBox.

It was then, the girl, with her collection of samples, rediscovered herself. With just one box her spirit was renewed. She was now armed with the hottest cosmetic brands on the market. From perfume , hair , MAC lipsticks, to affirmations to revatalize any woman or girl everywhere.

The girl knew she had done it, she had found herself. With her new secret weapon in hand, the holy grail; her personalized BirchBox.

With A special thank you engraved in her heart to Maria the cosmetic guru at Walgreens the girl returned to her home changed.

Accepting that she could not change the astrocities she faced daily in the projects, she decided it was time to move. It was then, that her zest and excitement for life had returned. Her confidence had resurfaced. BirchBox was the muse that inspired the girl to love herself again. She was not a reflection of her environment she was an innocent bystander.

Two women: Katia Beauchamp & Hayley Barna, emerged from their Harvard Business School with the idea of Birchbox some 10 years ago. A carefully curated box filled with beauty tips and products that inspire self confidence. They too may have felt their self esteem eroding from the unforeseen circumstances of life.

The girl smiled at herself in the mirror of her new apartment, which was far away from the old one. She was safe, she felt protected even as she sprayed on her new perfume, “Juliet has a gun,” she was back as was her #blackgirlmagic!
