Are You the One ?
Who will be brave enough to change the world?

I love this world and all the people in it.Many of us lead busy and I think we may have gotten so busy trying to get ahead , working on our goals, and making sure that we are OK with all that is going on, that it becomes easy to say that we do not have the time. The only way that each of us, individually, will be well is that if all of us are well, collectively. There are symptoms of the need all around us.The symptoms are seen in our families, in the lives of friends and also our neighbors. So many from all walks of life are being engulfed by anxiety, poverty, brokenness and now a health crisis. We as a society actually care about one another and are concerned with the rising number of people that are in need. We just have to be mindful that the solution involves genuinely take time with one another in a more tangible way.
Earlier this year I was unexpectedly reminded of the need to help others . I had been out with a few others handing out coats scarves and hats to the homeless. Now from just hearing this part of the story you may wonder how was it that I was reminded; when I was already out doing the work? Well let me tell you the rest and it will become clear. After handing out the clothing,I took a short walk to see a friend of mine that worked in a day shelter. This organization is a space that the homeless in our city go to in order to have a safe place to be , until they are allowed back into the shelter where they are allowed to sleep overnight. Many shelters make the people leave early in the morning and they are not allowed back in until it is time for dinner. Having this experience allowed me to see that so much more is needed. These are people with nothing. They needed hot food, health care, clothing, job counseling ,but most of all just someone to talk to. The need was overwhelming to say the least. When I thought of the fact that this is just one category of need, the bigger picture became clear.I actually believe that we are coming back to the day and time when most would volunteer in some way to help others. We are realizing that coming outside of ourselves and our comfort zones could be life changing.

I have come to the conclusion that loving each other in a non- judgmental and free way will conquer some of the anxieties that are paralyzing some today. We must also come together and decide that it is time to put away our differences. There would be more doing this if there were more examples. It just takes one in our cities and neighborhoods to lead others to help each other more. We all have gifts and unique ways of helping. It takes just one to make a change. Martin Luther King jr was one . Gandhi was but one. Mother Theresa was one.All of these people changed the world. There is power in one. Each one that stands up in the environment in which they were planted and teaches and leads another;that one will make a difference in this world. That one will help those that grieve and are desperately searching for the missing pieces in their lives. That one will inspire many to move in agreement in tangible ways.My question to you is will you be the one to make a difference and be a difference to those who really need it?
Will you be the one to spend time with the neighbor that is alone with no family close in proximity to them? I know it takes some of our time and a lot of humility and genuine love for humanity, but it is so worth it in the end. The power of one can change many. Wouldn't you agree, that this world could use a change? Will you be that one ?
