The Best Cook In The House

Paxton will tell you that he is the very best steak cooker in his house and now ours!

Sister Mary with Paxton, my grandson. My photo.

Paxton will soon be ten years old in August. He has a younger sister that is the same age as him for a month. I have heard how much better he is at everything than his sister and for several years he has been the best cook whenever someone allows it.

Well, he is spending time at our house and he doesn't always get to do fun things with fun grandparent as Grandpa is changing the oil on my truck. And that can take a while. He came over yesterday with steak to cook for him and Grandpa.

His recipe is below:

First I had to have garlic, soy sauce, and sauerkraut. He told me fresh garlic is best but what I had in the jar would have to do. He used half a container of garlic and wanted more.

Then he mixed the ingredients together and put a cover on them and put them in the freezer. He said it usually will take about 4 hours to prepare this steak. It is not the best cut, after all, it is sirloin.

After a couple of hours, I let him know he would have to start cooking. As we had to be done eating by 6:00. Grandpa is on intermittent fasting and he is done eating by 6:00 every night.

Paxton's mom and his 16-year-old brother are eating carnivore for a month and he thought he might join them. On day two, he wasn't sure he could do it for a month. By the end of day two, he was thinking he might not make it for the rest of the day.

It is difficult to be a carnivore at the Grandparent's house. I am allergic to beef and gluten sensitive and Grandpa does not like fatty meat. I had picked up a cheese wrap and lunch meat so that was a perfect snack for him. When adding salad dressing, he asked if that was carnivore.

Oops! Mayonaise may be, it has eggs. Salad dressing, probably not! Then all grandpa's snacks are popcorn, and sweets right now. It's hard to be around that when you are going carnivore.

He is back today and brought Grandpa's favorite steak. Filet Mignon. (He pronounces it fill it mig no) Then he says, that must be Spanish or something. I suggested he ask his 3-year-old cousin, who is in Spanish immersion daycare.

He looks at me like I'm crazy and says she won't know what different steak cuts are in Spanish. I said it wouldn't hurt to ask. He just looked away in disgust.

The recipe:

3 small green packets of sauerkraut

fresh garlic whenever possible

soy sauce

a small amount of water

mix together and place covered in the freezer.

After a couple of hours:

put olive oil in the frying pan

add steak

brown both sides and remove

Then:

Place frozen ingredients in the frying pan.

Brown them, stirring occasionally.

Finally:

Place the sauerkraut mixture on top of the steak and serve.

Grandpa loved it and had toast with butter alongside his steak. Paxton didn't eat all of his sauerkraut and had some parmesan crisps. I wanted to try them for snacks and had them in the cupboard. (gluten-free, and also a carnivore snack!)

Show Idea

This would make a great idea for a weekly cooking show. I watched Art Linkletter and later watched a bit of Bill Cosby with "Kids Say the Darndest Things!" So fun! How fun would a cooking show be with a famous chef and children as guests that are ready to cook!

My great-nephew wanted a chef's hat and apron one year for his birthday. Many kids want to cook. Some have to. Some love it! My grandson has been cooking eggs for us for a few years now. His brother is the only one better but he cooked for a local restaurant and Applebees.

When I asked my grandson if it was okay to write about his ability to cook, he thought it was a great idea, especially if he could be a star and I could be famous!

I told him that if I were to win the contest, then I would split the prize with him! He thought that would be perfect!
