Generational Ripples of Hate
Introduction: In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, suffering is seemingly the new societal norm the world over. With the entire human race on edge out of fear of an unseen destructive force in our midst, it seems illogical to not be concerned (even if only a little). Every race and nationality have seen its own plethora of challenges. From genetic pre-dispositions to underlying health conditions that lead to an increased susceptibility to a novel new enemy, everyone has suffered in some capacity. Some have been worse off than others, however, and still are exploring their own depths for survival. Whether that be mentally, physically, or economically, the struggle is apparent. Socio-economic status, healthcare infrastructure stability, social class (caste), and even the color of your skin has been analyzed through scientific research. psychological analysis, and sociological input. This has proven that over this past year and a half (depending on global location). Reactance theory and racism has shown us the worst of us all. While those that stepped up when they were needed to go that extra mile have highlighted the best. But what began as an inevitable horror of phylogenetic morphology (the strain varied and changed) of a SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) strain, has evolved into a resurgence of something much more devious. A resurgence of hate against the general population, but specifically crimes against those of Asian Ancestry (BBC America, 2021). Violence against Asian Americans (AA) is not a new phenomenon, it is however making a comeback. Unfortunately, due to ignorance and undereducated masses so are the numbers on Pacific Islanders (PI) statistics. The number of race specific attacks, be them physical or verbal, are on the rise owing to a lack of understanding by those who identify them as ‘Asian’ (Porterfield, 2021). Mostly falling under the category of ignorance of other cultures that is unfortunately an American sociological cliché when viewed through the eyes of the rest of the worlds preconceived notions of the ‘socially ignorant American’. This rise in hate and violence against any group of people, to me, is a problem that needs to be handled quickly, and decisively.

Retirement is around the corner
My idea of releasing stress isn't crocheting or doing stitch work. It has always been on community involvement such as working with the Cub and Boy Scouts, or coaching t-ball and or soccer. My other interest involves photography and jig saw puzzles. Nothing more relaxing than working a three thousand piece jig saw puzzle, or hiking up a trail just to get a nice photo shot of your favorite spot and posting it online. I also try to read a little bit, my favorite authors are Cathy Glass and Casey Winters, both of whom were foster parents in London for many years.

mosiac
I am drowning. I can feel the floor sway beneath my feet and I run. I burst into my room and sink into the plush carpet so it swallows me whole. The dark shapes in my room warp as steely words bounce around my skull like a pinball machine. Creative writing as a career? We didn’t come to America for you to be a starving artist. When will you not disappoint us in this America? Don’t you see all we’ve sacrificed?

Pandemic Contemplations
The pandemic, coronatine, quarantine, whatever we are calling it, gave me a nice brain fog. I inhaled in shock, and it took me a really long time to exhale. I, like everyone else, was caught by surprise. I’m not a stranger to a lockdown. When I need to focus inward or learn something new, I’ve quarantined myself many times. I don’t want the world disrupting my learning curve, so I was not completely opposed to a shutdown. I, however, have never had the experience of the entire planet having to shutdown with me. I can take it. I can go with the flow. Can everybody else? Did everybody else?

Neighbors, Not Hoods
Let me make one thing clear from the start; this is NOT about politics. This is about people. This is about taking action where and how it does the most good. It’s about showing that everyone can make a difference in the lives of others and that, by working together, we can accomplish more. Most importantly, it’s about reclaiming our inherent rights and showing that voluntary cooperation is the best way forward.

Words Shape You
Words Shape You Do you think in pictures or do you think in words? While most people think in some combination of the two, the truth is that some people can’t picture things well in their mind’s eye, if at all. This is called Aphantasia. This article isn’t about that, but I want people to be aware of it, for one thing, and the overall concept will help me to illustrate what this article IS about. This article is about the fact that language, and more specifically, the words we use in our standard vocabulary and those which describe our beliefs: those shape who we are. Words are the building blocks of thought and the enabler of labels. They allow us to build an understanding of the world. That understanding informs every decision you consciously or unconsciously make. So again, simply put: Words shape you.
