Words Shape You
Words Shape You Do you think in pictures or do you think in words? While most people think in some combination of the two, the truth is that some people can’t picture things well in their mind’s eye, if at all. This is called Aphantasia. This article isn’t about that, but I want people to be aware of it, for one thing, and the overall concept will help me to illustrate what this article IS about. This article is about the fact that language, and more specifically, the words we use in our standard vocabulary and those which describe our beliefs: those shape who we are. Words are the building blocks of thought and the enabler of labels. They allow us to build an understanding of the world. That understanding informs every decision you consciously or unconsciously make. So again, simply put: Words shape you.

Domed City Living
A sudden throb of pain in your skull is, yet again, your first sign that a new day has begun. It’s been weeks since you’ve slept properly and your body reminds you of that in a dozen or more various ways, every second, for a while after you wake up. With a deep breath and a sigh, you swing your feet around to the side of the bed, stand up, and begin to go about your standard daily routine… but today is different. Today, you finally get some answers. Today is… probably your last chance.

My Passion is the Future
My name is James Evans and my passion is the future… for me, you, and Humankind as a whole. In order to explain what I mean by that, I’ll tell you a little bit about myself for context. I’m a 31 year-old male, born and raised in Northern Virginia. I have a loving family and a job that doesn’t pay as much as it should. The only form of creative expression I have any talent for is writing, but I regularly feel as if I’d be neglecting other parts of my life by doing so with regularity. I am rarely satisfied with anything and I’ve almost never shown people any of my writing. If I publish this, it will be my first published work associated with my actual name, but far from my first written work ever. The topic of this challenge from Vocal™ and Memberful™ is an important one because in our society: if you want the time to commit to your passions, you need to monetize them. They’ve challenged Vocal™ members to do just that. This got me not only considering my passions, but also heavily weighing my options for ever making a living from them. I’m a passionate person. I’m passionate about passion, I’m passionate about other’s passions, but most importantly: I’m passionate about progress, innovation, and improving and expanding on the human life experience. All of these are things I associate with the future. I struggled with that in the past. I believe that many of today’s best science-fiction and futurism writers are inspired not by personal visions of a better world, but exclusively by research done only on the technologies that modern science informs us will potentially exist in the near future. That’s where I hope my future readership will recognize a few qualities of mine, through my writing, that they want to see more of: vision, imagination, and a genuine desire for improvement both person and in the world at large.
