Classic Movie Review: 'Candyman' 1992
Candyman 1992 stars Virginia Madsen as Helen Lyle, a grad student working on a thesis on urban legends. With her best friend, Bernadette (Kasi Lemmons) co-writing the thesis, the two have begun to investigate a very particular legend, that of the Candyman. An exposition professor, played with righteous pomposity by Michael Culkin, explains that Candyman (Tony Todd) was a former slave turned painter who was lynched in the late 18th century after fathering a child with a white woman, the wife of a plantation owner.

Egyptian Horror Films
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Egyptology. My sister and I grew up watching documentaries about ancient civilizations during the Summers. She went on to earn a degree in history while I went on to write horror and study rhetoric. Yet, we both still love a good film based on ancient Egyptian culture. The list below are a few of my favorite films, some good, some are not so good (but who doesn’t love cheap horror cult-films?) My personal favorite is “The Pyramid” from 2014 – definitely the film you want to see out of all of these listed below.

10 Horror Villains Who Have Emerged Since the Birth of the Millennium. Top Story - August 2021.
While it can be argued that a lot of horror offerings since the year 2000 have been sub-par or have been reboots/remakes of classic horror stories, there have been a decent amount of villains that have really demonstrated how the film industry has changed the genre. Although not all of the villains we've been introduced to could be considered "original," we can all agree that the portrayal of them over the past 20 years in film and television has definitely given villains a resurgence and given audiences something to love or hate. They also give us a promising look forward into the future of the horror genre.

Movie Review: 'We Need to Do Something'
As a storm overtakes a small suburban town, an internal storm rages inside the suburban home of a divided family of four in the horror thriller, We Need to Do Something. Directed by Sean King O’Grady, We Need to Do Something stars Pat Healy as Robert, the agitated father, Vinessa Shaw plays Diane, the secretive but loving mother to Melissa, played by Sierra McCormick, and Bobby, played by John James Cronin.

Movie Review: 'Behemoth'
The story behind the new movie Behemoth is more interesting than the story being told in the movie Behemoth. Director Peter Szewczyk is a famed effects artist and managed to make this effects heavy horror flick with a budget of only $65,000. That’s a remarkable achievement considering the cost of a movie in general can be twice that amount without relying on special effects spectacle.

‘The Night House’ Review—An Intriguing Thriller
This year has not been a strong year for horror films. We’ve had one gem named A Quiet Place Part II (and maybe Army of the Dead), but everything else has ranged from mediocre to absolutely awful. Fortunately, I think we now have two gems.

Netflix’s ‘Fear Street’ Trilogy: A Review
Yesterday, I binge-watched all three parts to Netflix’s “Fear Street” trilogy, directed by Leigh Janiak and based on the novels by R.L. Stine from the 90’s. I have to say, going in, I was a bit skeptical, but the more the trilogy progressed, the more hooked I became.

Conjuring 2 Movie Review
Paranormal investigator and author Ed (Lorraine Warren) travels to the UK to help the Hodgson family, who have been involved in poltergeist activities at their home in Enfield since 1977. When the first film was made in 1971 on an isolated Rhode Island farm that seemed scary at the time, the real Ghostbusters (Ed Warren, Patrick Wilson, and Vera Farmiga) rocked London in 1977.

Horror Movie Noobing
Horror fans are an entirely unique genre of human beings, and I've always had an interest in befriending them (unless they were the snob type who looked down upon people who had not seen many horror movies, I don't do very well with that kind of energy.) I mean, if you're going to befriend someone with unique interests, why not choose the ones who find amusement or entertainment in blood and gore? There has to be something interesting to explore there. My theory has generally always been correct but I've also discovered more than interesting people: horror fans, especially hardcore ones, are passionate, creative, and analytical about their fandom, and it helped me understand that the fandom goes far beyond having a penchant for prop guts and fake blood.
