fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.

Freezer - Part One My front tooth slightly overlaps my other front tooth. I’m a nightmare when I get hungry. I laugh at my own jokes. When he fell in love with me he fell in love with my flaws, and I accepted his - without really understanding the depth of what that meant.

‘Damn it!’ There it is again! Everytime I close my eyes there is that ghostly owl, seemingly piercing into my soul with its gaze. Every night for the past week I have had the same dream, I close my eyes and there it is. Just starring at me, it almost feels like it’s waiting for me. I can’t scream, I can’t move, I just look at it, looking at me. I miss sleep, I miss rest, all there is now is him. I’m assuming he’s a male because he just sits and stares at me and says nothing, females have way too much to say to waste such time. I wish I could ask my mother what he is, why he’s here, but she would just cry voodoo and I would succumb to another mambo bathing me in Florida Water and oils. It took me weeks to get the smell out of my locs last time.

Road Trip
My son sat silently in the passenger seat of the pick-up truck we’d “borrowed” from our dead neighbor. He stared straight ahead, but was probably seeing nothing. The mileposts increased in value as we headed toward Idaho Falls. We had only been on the road a couple of hours, but I’d already seen at least 400 cars littered along the interstate. There were signs of life in some as we came upon and passed them, but I was not about to stop. It wasn’t worth the risk. It was us or them. I never imagined I would have the capacity to think in such a way, but I believe that changed the moment I had to drive a kitchen knife into my suddenly insane wife’s heart to keep her from murdering our oldest child. Or maybe it had changed prior to that, like when I discovered the bodies of the other four children. Regardless, charity had become a death sentence. I looked back over at my son and caught the glint of tears running down his face. All I could manage from my position in the driver’s seat was to lay my hand on his shoulder. He turned his head toward the passenger window and stayed that way until we stopped.

Blood Lover
I breathed deep and stretched my neck back, catching sight of a barn owl perched among the branches above. The darkness was no barrier as large eyes peered at me from a flat face. I was gorged and reborn with the sanguine liquid flowing through me. I grinned and wiped the blood from my chin with the back of a hand.

THREE
Why I write flash fiction I discovered flash fiction two years ago, my kind of stories to the point no shitting around. Some writers like to paint a picture; you only do that when it applies directly to the story, so why assemble words, not to the point. That's how I feel, at least, I like that I don't have to read through 200 pages to get to the point and the ending. Some stories need all of the meat because that's the story, but I like the story to keep moving. I have found myself reading a novel, and I'm like, get the point already. I want to know what happened, but the story seems to stall. I found myself cheating and looking ahead a couple of chapters or the end of the book or story. There are stories or novels where I've read every page because it flowed together to the end. When I was younger and had more time on my hands, I was an avid reader, making me want to write. I don't know if I'm any good; I've had mixed reviews and comments.

It's 2AM Somewhere
Max Arcane was a cool guy, a legend in his own mind, like Elvis or Prince or Keanu Reeves. He was young at heart, always hanging out in the park with girls that were way too young for him. A lion surrounded by young females. He loved collecting movies, especially horror blu rays. He swore he would kill anyone that tried to take his flicks. "Don't take my flicks man!" Max told his friend Reggie. His friends were all younger. Reggie was his protégé, in training to be the next late night underground film/music review master.

Haunted in the Night
“You didn’t know about the letter, you couldn’t have helped her and if you had been with her you could have gotten hurt or taken too, maybe Helena knew this so she didn’t tell you to protect you" Claire speculated, she believed Chad to be innocent.

Sasquatch
I cursed myself for making such a stupid mistake while scanning what seemed like endless treetops from my perch on the lone, bald hill. How could I think that heading down a side trail this late in the day would be a good idea? I knew better. I wasn’t some novice hiker, and yet I was lost with little more than the clothes on my back and a utility knife that I always carried with me on hikes. All out of water, no snacks and even my cellphone was useless up here.
