Donald John Trump is one of the most well-known, controversial, and influential figures in modern American history. Born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, Trump became famous long before he entered politics. He made his mark in real estate, business, entertainment, and later shocked the world by becoming the 45th President of the United States.

Trump grew up in a wealthy family. His father, Fred Trump, was a successful real estate developer. After attending the New York Military Academy and later earning a degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Donald Trump joined his father’s real estate business. Over time, he expanded the Trump Organization and built a reputation for bold, high-profile real estate deals in Manhattan. Skyscrapers like Trump Tower and hotels bearing his name helped him become a brand in himself.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Trump became a symbol of wealth and business success. He authored best-selling books like The Art of the Deal and was a frequent guest on TV shows. In the 2000s, he became even more famous through his reality TV show, The Apprentice, where he judged business contestants and popularized the phrase, “You’re fired!”

Despite his fame in entertainment and business, many were surprised when Donald Trump entered politics. In 2015, he announced his candidacy for President of the United States as a Republican. His campaign was unconventional, direct, and often controversial. He promised to “Make America Great Again,” focusing on immigration control, rebuilding American industries, tax cuts, and a tough foreign policy. Many Americans, especially working-class voters, felt he spoke for them.

In 2016, Trump defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in one of the most unexpected election results in U.S. history. His victory was both celebrated and protested across the country. Trump’s presidency from 2017 to 2021 was marked by strong opinions on both sides. Supporters saw him as a leader who stood up for American values, cut taxes, reduced regulations, and improved the economy. Critics saw him as divisive, inflammatory, and accused him of promoting racism, nationalism, and misinformation.

One of Trump’s most defining policies was on immigration. He pushed for building a wall on the U.S.–Mexico border, issued travel bans on several Muslim-majority countries, and tightened immigration enforcement. On the economic front, he cut corporate taxes, renegotiated trade deals like NAFTA (renamed USMCA), and took a tough stance on China. Under his administration, the U.S. economy saw growth and low unemployment — until the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020.

The pandemic became a major turning point in his presidency. Critics argued that Trump downplayed the virus, gave mixed messages, and failed to lead a coordinated response. His handling of COVID-19 and the nationwide protests after the killing of George Floyd in 2020 deeply affected his public image.

Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden but refused to concede. He repeatedly claimed the election was “stolen” due to widespread fraud — claims that were rejected by courts and election officials. This led to the storming of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021 — an event that shocked the world and led to his second impeachment (making him the only U.S. president impeached twice).

Even after leaving office, Donald Trump remains a dominant force in American politics. He continues to rally supporters, influence the Republican Party, and as of 2025, is once again a central figure in upcoming presidential campaigns.

To his supporters, Trump is a patriot who challenged the political establishment and fought for America’s greatness. To his opponents, he represents a threat to democracy and unity. Either way, there’s no denying that Donald Trump has left a permanent mark on American history — a figure loved by many, disliked by many, but impossible to ignore.
