firmly believe that every myth has a basis in reality there's little done to investigate that claim and prove whether it's true or false sometimes it does happen that we come across evidence proving warrior in fact the idea was so popular with modern sensibilities that the character of Wonder Woman folded that mythology into her origin according to Tales this was a society of warrior women that lived in Asia Minor or modern day Turkey they fought with a power and ferocity to rival any man for years it was believed that these were just fanciful tales and the idea of an entire Society of female warriors was allit absurd how could they survive without men how could they rival other armies in battle well that's something for anthropologists to work on since it turns out that the Amazon could have been influenced by an older still undiscovered language but this is just a hypothesis number three the fall of the Acadian Empire the Samarian Empire eventually fell to Sargon the Great who every once in a while there seems to be a sliver of Truth to the tales of these mythical places let's take a look at 10 that may have been based in some degree of reality number 10 Atlantis the story of Atlantis can be traced to the Greek philosopher Plato he spoke of the fabed lands back in 360 BC in Plato's telling Atlantis was a land of rich and powerful people who were technologically advanced it was not a complimentary tale though and his stories about it were meant to illustrate that their knowledge and might had corrupted them as a people for most of History these Tales were regarded as allegorical used by Plato to illustrate a point there are no other writings of this time that ever mention anything like Atlantis so it was generally considered just to be something he made up to be illustrative not everyone believes that that was the case though in more recent years the belief that Atlantis may have been based on minoan society has achieved some notoriety the Manan Kingdom ruled by King MOS was said to be remarkably wealthy and advanced and had spread across much of ancient Greece Minoans had paved roads and were believed to have been the first Greek society to use a written language and then one day they just vanished it's believed that sometime around 1,600 BC a massive earthquake set off volcanoes on the know an Islands known as Thea burying it and destroying the wrote of the city in his 1933 novel Lost Horizon according to Hilton shangrala was essentially an Earthly Paradise hidden within the Klan mountains while many have dismissed the story as Pure Fantasy created by Hilton others believe there's some truth to it especially because Tibetan myths hold that there were several such cities hidden within the mountains in 1998 explorers tracking through the area discovered an area that they believe may have actually inspired the shangar story to the best of their knowledge no Western humans that ever set foot in the place called The Hidden Falls of sang po this Valley of lush Greenery was hidden even from satellite imagery in the mountains number s Eldorado the legendary city/ Kingdom ire of Eldorado is arguably one of the most interesting in all of Mythology conquistadors searched throughout South America to find this place which was apparently a vast City made of solid gold while some legendary places were based entirely in fiction and other places like Xanadu turned out to actually be real the truth about El Dorado is a complete Sid step from either of these things perhaps the results of the same phenomenon that happens during the telephone game when you tell a story to one person and they tell it to another and they tell it to another and the details get muddled the truth of Eldorado also changed over time the idea that El Dorado was a golden Kingdom came from something a little less vast but still pretty impressive Eldorado was no Kingdom but a king archaeological evidence shows that Eldorado was a person who was for all intents and purposes golden this Chief Tain would be covered from head to toe in gold and every day would bathe in a sacred leg to wash the gold off before applying it again the next day unlike most other Legends this makes El Dorado curiously true and false at the same time sort of like shring as cat neither outcome was expected but not entirely false either number six Camelot the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table is a pretty fantastic one especially when you consider it involves pulling magical sword from a stone and a wizard these things are generally not found in real life history despite that there's some evidence that Arthur's stomping grounds better known as Camelot was an actual real place at some point in time even if Arthur was never a real man or perhaps a Gestalt of several Kings retired British Professor Peter field believed he stumbled upon the actual location of Camelot while doing some research based on his findings he came to the conclusion that Camelot was a Roman Fort at slack to the west of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire the Roman Fort called camalam was strategically placed but currently exists underneath the golf course so any excavation is probably going to have to wait a few years number five high Brazil said to be located off the coast of Ireland the island of Brazil sometimes called high Brazil so as to not confuse with the South American country is supposedly hidden except for one day every 7 years you don't need to have a degree in geography do know that that is not a realistic feature of most islands which is why it's generally considered to be purely fictitious despite the mysterious nature of the islands there have been a counts of people discovering similar places over the years the islands appeared on maps as early as the year 1325 and continued to appear on maps all the way until the year 1800 several explorers and sailors claimed to have either seen or even visited the islands though most who went in search of it came back empty-handed it's been theorized that the porcupine Bank might be the actual source of the story AR raised sha in the general vicinity where High Brazil was said to exist number four Hanging Gardens of Babylon constructed in the 6th Century BC by King Nebuchadnezzar II the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon were supposed to be quite the sight to behold cascading Gardens that reached 75 ft in height and featured flowers herbs and all manner of exotic plant life to such an extravagant degree they they became known as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and as far as anyone knew in modern times they had never existed at all in order for such a garden to have existed an impressive irrigation system had to have been constructed to bring enough water into the desert for all the plants to thrive no evidence in modern times has ever been found to indicate such a massive undertaking ever existed around Babylon it doesn't necessarily mean that it didn't exist though according to research by Dr Stephanie D the reason we never found any evidence of the Hanging Gardens in Babylon was that they were never in Babylon in the first place she believes she discovered evidence of their existence in the ancient city of nve part of the Assyrian Empire D's research shows Assyrian King senak Carib was responsible for an extravagant Garden about a century before the supposed Babylonian version his writings describe such a thing including irrigation technology thought not to exist until four centuries later number three zura west of the Nile somewhere in the desert in Egypt or Libya was said to be the legendary Oasis of zura written accounts of it can be traced back to the 13th century mentioning a city that was as white as a dove it was said that it was ruled by a sleeping king and queen it was guarded by black Giants and it was full of treasures numerous European explorers set out to discover the location of zerzura in more modern times some as late as the 1930s it was in 1932 when Hungarian explorer llo almasi led an expedition through the desert and discovered a series of Wades though there was no shining White City with a sleeping King the truth was that they did discover some oases in the desert that had been clearly visited by the local Nomads who had built Huts around the area it's worth noting that in the recounting of Al massie's tale he started his Day of Discovery by dusting the desert sand off his plane had there been something in that area in the past it's just as likely that the desert had swallowed it and only the vegetation remains regardless of whether there was a real City or not the Oasis does seem to have existed and it's possible something else may once have been there as well number two to Tuli in ancient Greek and Roman writings the farthest north you could get was a land called thuli it was in the 4th Century BC when Greek Explorer pus came to Athens with stories of this land where the Sun never set and the land and ocean came together in a sort of jelly-like substance so well that was weird in later years some people came to believe that perhaps what pyus was describing was Iceland or even Greenland but the details didn't always line up in time people came to believe that pyos had just made up the entire story the only problem was he had been consistently reliable with what he had written about in the past and the fact remains that his description of the Arctic summer was accurate when you go far enough North you will reach places where the Sun stays up for days at a time it would be a remarkable thing for him to have just guessed at pus claims to have discovered the land six days across the sea from the orany islands the people there were said to be fair skinned and with light hair and barbarians by his description in later years the Nazis would latch on to the story and mount their own expedition to find th beleving it to be the birthplace of the Aryan race obviously the Nazis never found this mythical land of Aryan Supremacy but there were enough details of a land that clearly existed somewhere in the Arctic to confirm that wherever pus there was almost no range at which you were safe from being hit there are reliable sources that state the Mongol archers could routinely hit targets over 500 M away to put that in perspective the gun the United States Army uses today has a maximum deadly range of about 600 M with a reliable kill range of about half that meaning technically a distances over 400 m a Mongol Archer would pose more of a threat to you than a US Marine number nine English longbowman had buff skeletons the English Longbow is one of those weapons where the myths surrounding it have become so intertwined with the reality that it's hard to separate one from the other various legends exist about English longbowman being able to hit a man in the crotch from 500 yards or at loose an arrow capable of punching through plate armor like it was made of knockoff iPhone screens weirdly it seems that there's a surprising amount of Truth to these Legends historically recovered longbows have been noted to have draw said that he would kill himself if he missed number six Dean's archers made Spartans surrender the Spartans are largely considered to be one of the most fearsome and deadly fighting forces the world has ever known they turned not giving a crap into an art form and they perfected both sass as well as its variant extreme SAS one of the reasons that Spartans were feared was because they just didn't give up Spartans considered dying on the battlefield to be the ultimate honor and in Spartan culture surrendering was one of the most embarrassing things that you could do demosthenes an Athenian well he made Spartan surrender Dean's historic feat occurred during a battle on speria a small island a few miles away from Sparta that demosthenes figured would make a pretty good strategic stronghold all offer they readily accept it that made the battle the first time in all of history that a Spartan had surrendered prior to this a Spartan warrior had never been captured alive and deon's archers were able to capture a hundred of them in one go as you'd expect even in surrender the Spartans weren't happy when asked what they thought of arrows one prisoner sneered the arrow would be quite a weapon if it just killed the brave number five luu stopped a fight with one Arrow if you've ever played a Dynasty Warriors game you'll know that you're not supposed to pursue Lu for everyone else lubu is a famed almost mythical figure from Chinese history who said more rumors spread about his physical prowess than Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee combined one of the most realistic Feats attributed to him is the time he stopped a fight by showing off how cool he was during a meeting with two generals who were this close to slaughtering each other buo had a subordinate place a Halbert a few hundred feet away from him he then pulled out his bow he then said you will now witness me attempting to shoot an arrow at the branch of the Halbert head if I hit you shall withdraw your troops if I miss you can remain here and fight the men not believing the shot was possible he humed him and agreed to the terms without even taking aim he notched an arrow and cleanly split it in Two Against The halbert's Edge impressed and no doubt terrified that bu would turn the bow on them if they kept making trouble the generals withdrew their troops number four menoto Nomo once sunk a ship with a single Arrow by accident menoto Nomo is a figure from Japanese history famed for his bow skills unlike uichi who we previously mentioned who was known for being small and humble tattoo was known to be freaking huge seeing as he was roughly the size of a medium to large fridge tamamoto basically spent his time doing whatever he felt like this culminated in him exiling himself to an island for reasons he never decided to explain when the Japanese government asked tamamoto to pay taxes on his fancy new island he told them that since the island was his private property they'd do no such thing the government not realizing how lucky they' got off decided to send a small Fleet of Warships to tamam Moto's Island in a futile attempt to intimidate him into paying up in response tamamoto took out his bow and fired off an oversized blunt Arrow towards one of the ships instead of sailing harmlessly over the fleet to serve as a warning as he had originally intended the arrow smashed violently into the side of the lead ship putting a hole in its hole big enough to sink it the rest of the fleet realizing that tamamoto just took out a boat with one Arrow by accident decided to cut their losses and leave from 240 ft away while this may not seem impressive compared to some of the other things in this video we's versatility is what landed him here along with being an Archer competent enough to hit a dimiz Target like it's nothing we was a skilled boxer and martial artist and was so feared in combat that it wasn't uncommon for men to Desert and swear allegiance to him in the middle of battle there are many reasons he became a Chinese folk hero but those have got to rank right up there number two Finn a man who hit another art AR's bow little is known about the Archer known only as Finn save for the fact that he pulled off one of the most outlandish archery tricks ever recorded shooting the bow of another Archer out of his hands the details surrounding the Time Finn told physics to take a day off happen to be well recorded because they took place during the Battle of spala this was a battle between King Olaf trivas of Norway and his greatest hits collection of enemies during the battle the king noticed that yal Eric one of the leaders of the opposing Fleet just so happened to be floating by spying chance to turn the tide of battle the king ordered his best Archer to try and kill Eric with a well-placed arrow to the Dome the Archer fired two arrows at Eric they both missed but the second came just close enough for Eric to note where it came from while the Archer Was preparing to fire a third Arrow Eric ordered his best Archer Finn to return fire Finn fired an arrow that hit his opponent's bow causing it to explode in his hands in case you're wondering yep Eric won the battle number one Jeb the Archer who shot genas Khan's favorite horse we started this video by talking about Mongol archers and we're going to end it by talking about perhaps the coolest one of all Jeb Jeb is noted as being one of genas Khan's finest and most loyal generals which is kind of awesome when you realize that they first met because jebe shot genas Khan's favorite horse in the face The Story Goes that during a battle with a rival tribe in 121 a warrior then known as zagged shot and killed the horse gangas Khan was riding on after the battle a furious Khan demanded to know which Soldier
