A Colorful World Part 2
The colors red, blue, purple, yellow, and orange

The Color of Cherries
The color red is bright and vibrant. It has many different shades and we can see plenty of red in every sunrise and a bit in every sunset which tends to have more of an orange glow. I love wearing red in different combinations such as red and purple, red and dark blue, and red and yellow. We all know that red and green are Christmas colors.

Red is so full of fire, passion, and even blood. It has a multitude of meanings and is associated with desire, love, willpower, anger, danger, action, radiance, and determination among others. You can see that red seems to have wonderful good qualities and you could say that it is the color of true love. I enjoy seeing red flowers such as roses, carnations, tulips, and poppies.
This vibrant color has always made me smile just because it is so bold. For some reason, red has always made me think of ketchup or another spelling catsup.
There is something so wonderful in the sparkle of red gemstones such as rubies and garnets. These gemstones increase interest, enthusiasm, and boost energy and create confidence. Red gemstones also protect us from anxieties and fears.

Associated with red:
The traditional 40th wedding anniversary gift is the red ruby.
If you were wondering why barns and other large structures are often painted red it’s because red was the most inexpensive paint you could buy and also the easiest paint to manufacture.
Without its thorns, the red rose symbolizes romance, love, and passion and the rose which has its thorns symbolizes the challenges and the rough road ahead to find true love. Love can be not only wonderful and fill you with joy but love can also be painful and has been known to break quite a few hearts.
Shades of red:
Crimson – has a touch of blue to it. It gives one the determination to succeed. This color also gives off a certain sensuality.
Scarlet – this particular color has some orange in it and it has a certain brightness and richness. It shows enthusiasm and gives one a love for living.
Burgundy – is a red that is sort of purplish. This is the one that reminds me of cherries. It is serious, tends to be less energetic, and is more sophisticated. This is the color that is often favored by the wealthy.
Maroon – is a dark bluish red it is somewhere in between – not as dramatic as an actual red and a bit softer than burgundy.
When it comes to red foods my thoughts always begin with cherries, then onto strawberries and raspberries. I love red vegetables like tomatoes. There are five red foods that are full of antioxidants and vitamins. My favorite cherries are believed to reduce pain and inflammation and they’ve been thought to fight various diseases such as arthritis, gout, diabetes, and cancer. Cherries are also a good source of Vitamin A, fiber, and potassium. The pomegranate though on the sour side represents good health. It has been known to reduce the build-up of plaque in the arteries and lower blood pressure.

Pomegranate juice can help with diabetes, arthritis, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction. Beets have their place with the color purple as well but inside they can be quite red. They will give you your daily worth of foliate which is a B vitamin that is needed for growing healthy new cells. Their color comes from betanin which is a phytochemical that is thought to boost the immune system.

Chili peppers have capsaicin which is an antioxidant that hinders food spoilage and might also protect blood vessels. It is also known that capsaicin increases the body’s metabolic rate and it may also stimulate the brain's chemicals which make us feel less hungry.

Finally, we come to tomatoes which are a great source of vitamin C and also have some vitamin A, fiber, and potassium. These wonderful vegetables are also rich in lycopene which is an antioxidant that helps fight against skin aging and might be beneficial against heart disease and cancer.

Blue On Blue
When I was a child all things blue made me happy especially a brilliant blue sky in the summertime. Blue is a color that stands for loyalty, honesty, and trust and it can be quiet, reserved, and even sincere. You can be sure that you can rely on blue to take over control and to do the right thing when times get tough. Just think of the wonderful things that are blue like twilight, the sky, and the oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes. Remember that the sky is reflected in the waters and can make them a wonderful blue, especially on a clear, sunny day. Under brilliant blue skies in the summertime, my mom looked up and said that the sky was as blue as Egyptian skies. This has remained fondly in my memory. Mom had never been to Egypt but something associated with this for her.
This color can be soothing and is able to promote both mental and physical relaxation. Blue is a good color to have around as it can reduce stress and it can create a feeling of absolute calm. Like that wonderful feeling of lying on the grass in the summertime looking up at a clear blue sky and watching puffy white clouds like sailing ships float by.

Blue is also the color of religious study, devotion, and spirit and it promotes the need for contemplation and prayer. It is also nostalgic and tends to live in the past but if we are faced with the peacefulness of the color blue we can step back in time and relive some wonderful memories. To feel calm it is a good idea to wear blue gemstones such as blue topaz and blue sapphire. Azurite and Lapis Lazuli are thought to heighten psychic power.
Of course, there are also lovely blue flowers. Those in the photo I took in the spring in my garden.
Shades of Blue:
Pale blue – inspires creativity and the freedom to be able to break free
Turquoise – symbolizes youth and has a most soothing effect. This color also contains green for growth quality along with blue for communication quality. Turquoise is known to have been used in amulets in order to provide health, confidence, protection, and strength.
Sky blue – the calmest of colors. It inspires fidelity and selfless love. In other words, it is the universal healer.
Azure blue – Brings about true contentment and it also inspires ambition to be able to achieve things and strive for goals and determination.
Dark blue – the color of responsibility and conservatism. Even though this color seems to be calm, cool, and collected it is also the color of the non-emotional worrier which brings with it repressed feelings. Dark blue is also the color of the hypocrite and the pessimist. This is a serious masculine color that represents power, integrity, and knowledge, and it is known to be used fairly often in the corporate world.

Now when it comes to blue foods the only two that actually are blue or have some blue are blueberries and blue cheese.
Purple Passion
Purple is another color I’ve always liked and it is a color that is a combination of blue which gives stability and red for energy. This color has long been associated with royalty. Purple symbolizes luxury, nobility, ambition, and power and it conveys extravagance and wealth. It is a color that has also been associated with creativity, dignity, independence, magic, mystery, and wisdom.
When it comes to the color purple we can find it in spirituality and it’s great to use when meditating as it soothes emotional and mental stress. It is a color that has long been a favorite among creative people as it is meant for those who are adventurous at heart with spiritual leanings and have a flair for drama. Purple is a combination of two other colors red and blue. It is the color red which brings off dynamic and active energy while the color blue brings with it a cooling, calming, and passive feel. It is a color that has been associated with inspiration and imagination.
You can combine purple with other colors for different kinds of effects. Some terrific combinations are deep eggplant with neutral beige or tan tones. Quite a striking combination is purple and green and other eye-appealing combinations are pink and purple and red and purple and two which I much prefer purple and orange and purple and yellow.
Different Shades of Purple:
Lavender – a light purple which has a tinge of blue and it is a shade of purple which is attracted to beautiful things and has sensitivity, vulnerability, and fragility.
Lilac – has a tinge of pink to it and it implies youthfulness, superficially, and immaturity. This shade of purple is enthusiastic, extroverted, and inspires romance, vanity, and glamor.
Mauve – This color can be found somewhere between lilac and lavender and is supposed to be able to help us make the best choices and decisions.
Amethyst – This is quite a mystical color and it is known to protect the vulnerable and assist the humanitarian. It is the color of the evolved soul.
Plum – A sort of reddish purple. Considered an old-fashioned color it is honorable and connected with family traditions. However, it can also be narrow-minded and prudish.
Deep Purple – A color that is associated with higher spiritual attainment. It is powerful and it can indicate ruthlessness and arrogance.

When it comes to purple foods among vegetables there are eggplants, red cabbage, and beets and among fruit, there are purple grapes, plums, and blackberries.

Finally, the one thing that comes to mind and that I dearly love to see every year in May are purple lilacs and their scent is so heady and wonderful.
Sunny Yellow
Yellow is the color of the sun and sunny days just make me smile. It’s such a bright and delightful color and that is why yellow kitchens usually radiate such warmth and welcome. Yellow when combined with red always reminds me of mustard and ketchup but I love this dramatic combination. I love combining yellow with purple, yellow with dark blue, yellow with a deep forest green, and finally yellow with black.

Yellow and black remind me of bumble bees flying from flower to flower on a hot summer’s day. I love yellow lemons which become lemonade and who could resist all those yellow chicks and ducklings?

Like most children, I too had a yellow rubber ducky in my bubble bath.
The color yellow has the power to stimulate the nervous system, activate our memories, and stimulate our mental processes and it also encourages communication. I know on gray and rainy days I sometimes cannot find the inspiration to write down what I feel but on a sunny day when everything is shiny and bright my fingers virtually fly over the keyboard as inspiration just keeps on flowing.
Some interesting facts about yellow:
It is psychologically the happiest of all the colors in the color spectrum.

There are a lot of yellow gems and among them, all my favorites are golden yellow topaz, amber, and yellow sapphire.

Pencils have been painted yellow in the U.S. since the 1890s. It was at this time that American pencil makers wanted everyone to know that the best graphite came from China and wanted them to be aware of the fact that their pencils contained it. Since the color yellow is associated with respect and royalty pencil manufacturers began painting pencils a bright yellow in order to communicate a sort of ”regal” feeling and association with China. 75% of the pencils which are sold in the U.S. are yellow.
Shades of Yellow
Light, Clear Yellow – helps keep our minds alert and open.
Lemon Yellow – promotes the need to have an orderly life and makes us want to be self-reliant.
Golden yellow – the one which brings the sunshine right into a room. It sparks curiosity and makes us take a deeper interest in inspecting things around us.
Cream – encourages new ideas. However, this variation can also be associated with a lack of confidence and the need for reassurance.
Dark Yellow – May indicate an inclination toward melancholy and depression. Low self-esteem and lack of love. It is often associated with the cynic and the constant complainer.

Among yellow foods, there are lemons, bananas, pears, and pineapple. There is nice and mildly flavored yellow squash. Yellow, creamy butter comes to mind.
An Orange World
If there is one color that makes me always feel happy and smiling it is the color orange. It is simply a color that radiates a lot of warmth and happiness and always makes me think of the setting sun. This is a color that can give you emotional strength and can help you get over disappointments and despair. Orange has a color psychology that is optimistic and uplifting and has a way of rejuvenating our spirits. It is a color that should be in everyone’s life.
In our lives, orange can bring us a positive outlook on life and can help to keep us motivated and looking on the bright side of life. I just love how orange looks everywhere bright as the sun. As a color, orange means extroverted and uninhibited and encourages people to want to show off. It is a color that is related to social communication and definitely stimulates two-way conversations because it is such a warm and inviting color that just gets people together to socialize.

It is an unfortunate color for those who are on a diet as it stimulates the appetite. This is why there are restaurants that use orange in their decor and you’ll never go wrong putting an orange tablecloth on the dining room table. It is also a color that helps stimulate the brain into thinking new ideas and gives one the freedom to be themselves.
Orange is such a delightful color which also encourages self-respect and gives the encouragement to respect others. Unfortunately, because it is such a bright and cheery color not everyone likes to wear clothing that is orange as it stands out so much. I prefer to wear orange because it makes my cheeks look even pinker and my disposition rosier.
Different color tones of orange:
Peach –encourages conversation and communication. It also inspires good manners and has the possibility to put people at ease.
Golden Orange – encourages vitality and self-control
Amber – inspires greater confidence and better self-esteem
Burnt Orange – this gives off a negative vibration which indicates pride, tension, and aggressive self-assertion
Dark Orange – indicates over-confidence and over-ambition. Unfortunately, this color is the color of the opportunist who takes selfish advantage of every situation

This got me thinking about orange-colored foods. There are tangerines and oranges, to begin with. Among vegetables, there are sweet potatoes and carrots. There are pumpkins and we have peaches, apricots, and nectarines.
Orange is the color of Halloween and even Thanksgiving and nicely blends in with the color black during Halloween and the color brown at Thanksgiving.
