Too Much Television

My Viewing Habits Have Changed Thanks To Technology

Introduction

In the olden days, we used to have to catch a TV program when it was on, or else we missed it. Today, the only thing where that is still true is live sporting events, although we can still watch in retrospect.

Then we got programmable video recorders, TIVO that allowed us to pause and rewind live TV and today we can stream virtually anything we want on a multitude of platforms, and this is what has caused my current situation.

I am not a great binge-watcher, but with TV, I want to try a lot of cookies in the barrel, and there is so much excellent TV. I now have so many series on the go, and I don't have Disney+ or Paramount+, but I have all the UK free to air channels and their streaming service, plus Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+ and NowTV, My TV provided is Virgin and that allows me access to many series that I can stream.

So this is a sort of playl;ist of all the TV series on my list that I have not finished, although I am still watching them and intend to finish them.

I will try and categorise them by provider:

Virgin/Sky

True Detective

Halfway through series three, series four to watch as well. The flashbacks in Series three are a bit awkward, but it is still excellent, and Series four looks even better. One and two were superb too.

Brassic

Just awaiting series seven of this after the Italian Job cliffhanger ending of Series six.

Apple TV+

Murderbot

This is great fun, but the episodes are in weekly drops, like in the old days.

Severance

Still on Season 1 of this, but have to say it is some of the most disturbing TV I have ever seen. The concept is scary, and it will be a slow watch because it is so brilliantly difficult.

Slow Horses

Just on the second series of this excellent series about "past it" spies. Sir Gary Oldman is amazing and very funny as well.

Silo and Foundation

These two I am just waiting for the next seasons to drop, so you see I have a lot of TV coming, and I have not finished yet. Remember, these are the ones that I have still to finish.

Netflix

Better Call Saul

Five episodes to go in this brilliant prequel to probably the greatest TV series ever, "Breaking Bad".

Squid Game

I find this extremely violent series strangely compelling and have just started the final series, and it is more of the same horrific scenarios played out as games for money.

Stranger Things

I still haven't got past Season Two, so Three, Four and Five are waiting for me in this Stephen King/Steven Spielberg-esque slice of science fiction.

NowTV

The Last Of Us

I enjoyed Series One, which had some amazing episodes, but have only watched one episode of Series Two so far, in which the society seems to have sort of settled, but is still under threat from what has decimated the human race.

Amazon Prime

House

I am now up to Series Three, and it does seem to get better with each episode. Hugh Laurie proved to be an excellent actor, although it most episodes he deserves a good punching. Still very enjoyable.

The Rig

I am coming to the end of Series One of this series, and it includes an unexpectedly supernatural element as well as an outstanding cast.

Conclusion

There are a few other series that I am also watching, as well as films and game shows.

This should give you an idea of my tastes in viewing.

Thank you so much for reading and hopefully I can turn you on to some of this excellent television.

Loved Breaking Bad. I am still to watch Better Call Sol.

House and Stranger Things are the two shows that I have watched. Good job of sharing your tv interests.

  • I liked Stranger Things. I like to flip through horror movies on You Tube or flip through the HD Movie 2025 app on my cell then cast through Smart Connect a new movie. Once upon a time I was a binge watcher once a week for different series. I catch myself looking for the Syfy, horror, drama, documentary, or other eccentric story lurking under the bright lights of Hollywood and not on the big screen yet. That is my jam!

I loved Better Call Saul and was really happy seeing Carol Burnett on it! I love her. Thanks for the other recommendations - will try and catch some of them. I just finished a really great series called Empathie - Canadian made, out of Quebec.

I rarely ever turn my TV on. I hate the news, and I have stopped watching it because it is just too damn depressing. I don't even subscribe to any of the streaming channels. I can get local news if I need to watch it. I don't even have cable. I spend most days going for a walk, traveling or sitting and writing for hours each day.
