Missing Comic Con?
We all know that San Diego Comic Con is the hottest ticket in town, selling out in a matter of minutes for the last decade or so SDCC remains a popular place for nerds. That said, like a Taylor Swift concert, most people that want to go simply cannot. The demand is too high but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy plenty of nerdy related things from the comfort of home. So if you are bummed about missing SDCC, believe me I understand, I was missing out for years but you can still enjoy the weekend. Here’s all the things you can do to feel connected to this year's SDCC.

San Diego Comic Con
San Diego Comic Con is just around the corner and there is so much going on even without the presence of major studios and Hall H. So how is one meant to plan for all of this nerdy amazingness? Well my answer will always be spreadsheets and now that the schedule is out for the whole week it is time to figure out and prioritize what the most important panels are. Now there are a lot of things of personal interest this year and I can’t hit everything but I am hoping to get a lot of interesting panel experiences done as well as simply bonding with my fellow nerds. Now this is my first time ever at SDCC so I am beyond excited, I have been trying to get tickets for nearly a decade now and I finally get to go as press, I have never felt more accomplished.

Power Girl
I’ve documented the history of lots of female superheroes by this point and when we talk about the history of our female heroes we find that they are mostly written by men. Now what this has mainly produced is women that are oversexualized, women that are 1 dimensional with absolutely no depth, women that are used as plot devices and women that are openly treated like crap. Now, suddenly in 2023 some of them are finally getting written by female voices, saving them from the depths of the patriarchy. One of arguably the most important ones is Power Girl.

Felicia Day
San Diego Comic Con is a little thin to some eyes this year. The absence of many studios and a majority of Hall H has many attendees selling off their badges to people more motivated by the smaller panels. I personally think it's a great thing, both for SDCC and for the strikers. We want this strike to hurt the industry, that’s the point. That said, now comic con can operate more like an actual convention for industry fans and professionals. And among the things that fans get to enjoy comic con weekend is the beautiful and wonderfully nerdy, Felicia Day.

Invincible
Ahead of San Diego Comic Con I thought it important to check off some things that have been on my watch list forever ahead of some pretty big announcements. Let’s start with Invincible, not just another superhero show. And something that certainly proves that animation is not inherently for kids.

Invincible and The Boys
In a world that is dominated by both Marvel and DC superheroes that preach morality and the human struggle, other superhero projects show us an arguably more realistic perspective of superhero life. Invincible and The Boys both satirize popular superheroes and offer a different viewpoint on what it means to be powerful.

Everything You Need To Know About Groot's Homeworld, Planet X, And How It Could Factor Into The MCU's Future
First introduced in the original 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy film, Groot, a sentient tree of very few words, quickly became an MCU fan favourite. While we have seen Groot at nearly every life stage, from adorable baby, surly teen, right up to the impressive 'King Groot' in the mid-credits of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, the character's origins and backstory from before he met Rocket Raccoon and his other fellow Guardians has not yet been explored. Now, the first hint of said origins have come from a rather surprising source.

Secret Invasion
We’ve established thus far that I am less than impressed with the Secret Invasion series so far. Which is mostly disappointing because I feel up to this point the Disney+ series have been more good then bad. But the real problem with this show is the entire lack of emotional connection. There is no heart, no reason for the audience to care about any of these characters. That is the show's biggest problem so far, the little ones however are a big reason why it's been difficult to power through the show. It's slow, the pacing is really poor, and they have opted to make it visually very dark which was a poor decision. Normally 2 bad episodes won’t kill a show IF it starts getting drastically better after the 3rd, however it will only be a 6 episode series so we are officially halfway through. Will it get better? Or is this officially the worst Disney+ MCU show?

10 Actors Who Could Play Batman in The Brave and the Bold
DC Comics is rebooting its entire movie universe once again, spearheaded by directing mastermind James Gunn. Gunn has laid out a measured plan for how to implement the new versions of these beloved characters, including a film entitled The Brave and the Bold in which Batman and his son (Damian Wayne) will navigate their relationship as both family and crime fighters. In a world where Robert Pattinson, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton all occupy the cowl of Batman simultaneously, who will be able to step out of their shadows and make the character their own?
