'Orange Is the New Black'
When it comes to original TV shows, Netflix is one of the pros at producing them. One of its more popular series is Orange is the New Black. The show initially revolved around Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary, a women’s federal prison. As the series progresses, we still follow Piper’s story, but we also get a look into the other inmates' lives.

Since the dawn of mainstream entertainment, women have been outliers in film. A study done by Dr. Martha Lauzen revealed that women held only 30 percent of all speaking parts in the top 100 grossing films of 2014. Even when women are given larger parts, they are often cast within a small pool of roles, rarely reaching beyond the supportive wife, or the object of sexual desire for the male protagonist—and the male audience. Although many film studios continue to pump out content whose messages about women are questionable at best, not all portrayals of women are harmful.

Review of 'Fleabag'
My wife and I just binged Fleabag on Amazon Prime Video. Easy to do, since the two seasons add up to a total of 12 episodes (or about half of what a single season of network television used to be). Easy to watch, since the dialogue was brilliant, frank, witty, and hilarious—not to mention that it all takes place in London (our second favorite city, after New York, where we live).

Demon Slayer
You can search up and down the google search results, odds are you will find plenty of blog posts regarding Demon Slayer reviews. The question is why do bloggers write such great reviews about the newly founded anime? Well, let me tell you, it is a shounen gem that has the potential to become one of the greatest shounen there is yet to be seen. For my fellow otaku and geek lovers, we know that's tough to come by especially if the anime must live up to the legends such as Naruto, One Piece, the Dragonball franchise, and the recent My Hero Academia. However, Demon Slayer is not like other shounen of its genre that begins with an aspiring young boy wanting to be a hero, a Hokage, or finding a couple of dragon balls.

'Violet Evergarden' Episode 5
This episode revolves around Violet writing a string of love letters on behalf of Princess Charlotte to Prince Damian. Two members of royalty that is expected to be married as a political move to bring peace between the two respective countries. Straight from the off it is uncomfortable to watch as Charlotte is 14 years old while Damian is 24 years old. Two very uncomfortable ages to be thinking when it comes to love and marriage. Within the lore of the show itself the age at which a member of royalty is allowed to marry is the age of ten, most likely so that the rulers would be able to use the children as political chips in the larger political game. Though this information does not make it any easier to digest whether it reflects the times in our own history or not.

'Bullitt County' (2018)
Anything buried out there,is meant to stay buried. Bullitt County isn’t really an easy film. To be honest, I had to control myself not to give up after half an hour. It wasn’t very exciting, so to say. On the contrary. It was painfully slow and meaningless. The story is situated in the 70s as you can see from the colorful printed shirts and the Woodstock-like attributes. A reunion of grown-up school friends who wanted to break the monotonous existence as a responsible citizen. A trip to Kentucky is planned where they’re going to recreate a pub crawl past their favorite distilleries. The only person who isn’t voluntary participating is Gordie (Mike C. Nelson) who’s about to get married. He’s being kidnapped, thrown in the suitcase, and taken to the destination. Apparently, this is his bachelor party.

'Violet Evergarden'—Episode 4
This episode focuses on Iris as both Violet and herself travel to Iris’s home town for a request. Prior to this episode, we have seen Iris in a very limited fashion where she is primarily in the background. We know that she is not afraid to voice her thoughts, and is quite prideful of herself. However, during this episode, we get to see a completely different side to her. This is emblematic of how we tend to be in actuality, we show a different side of ourselves to the friends and co-workers, when compared to the side we show to the family that we grew up with.

'Violet Evergarden'—Episode 3
This episode revolves around Violet going to school so that she can be the best Doll that she can be. What this segment really emphasizes is the fact that in this time period of the world, the people that are able to read or write is quite low, or is a privilege afforded to those who can afford it, as it was the case in our very own history. Beyond that, this is a profession that is completely dominated by women. In fact, as far as the show depicts it, only women are Dolls. At no point is there a reason given as to why this is the case, it is only down to speculation to fill in the answer ourselves.
