RANT: The World of 'Bright' Deserved More.
The creation of Bright, released on Netflix in 2017, was promising. Touted as a progressive urban fantasy, the sweeping visuals of a city filled with fantasy creations intermixing with human characters was exciting to say the least. I’d been consuming urban fantasy books since adolescence and the anticipation of my favorite genre coming to the screen was unparalleled. I hoped it would mark an era of urban fantasy movies, especially since there were already whispers of a sequel. The first day it was available for streaming, I plopped down in front of my iPad and got ready with a bag of popcorn.

My Review of "Kid 90"
Kid 90 is like a time capsule of the past. There's so much nostalgia in this movie yet that's not what they're aiming at. Most of the nostalgia comes from the former child stars of the past that make cameos in this film. Instead it's a very open story of the life and times of Soleil Moon-Frye who played Punky Brewster back in the 80's. I for one had no idea she was video taping everything she was doing in the past. Watching this movie we understand that she was way ahead of her time.

The High Republic: Light Of The Jedi by Charles Soule
The Outline Light of the Jedi is the first novel set in the era of the High Republic and Soule has done a wonderful job of laying the first bricks for what promises to not only be a truly engaging series, but a whole chunk of the timeline yet to be touched upon by the current canon material.

Review 'A Neon Darkness'
Los Angeles, 2006. Eighteen-year-old Robert Gorham arrives in L.A. amid the desert heat and the soft buzz of neon. He came alone with one goal: he wants to see the ocean. And Robert always gets what he wants. At a very young age, Robert discovered he had the unusual ability to make those close to him want whatever he wants. He wanted dessert instead of dinner? His mother served it. He wanted his Frisbee back? His father walked off the roof to bring it to him faster. He wanted to be alone? They both disappeared. Forever. But things will be different in L.A. He meets a group of strange friends who could help him. Friends who can do things like produce flames without flint, conduct electricity with their hands, and see visions of the past. They call themselves Unusuals and finally, finally, Robert belongs. When a tall figure, immune to their powers, discovers them, the first family that Robert has ever wanted is at risk of being destroyed. The only way to keep them all together is to get his powers under control. But control is a sacrifice he might not be willing to make.

Book Review: The Sweet Potato Queens
Y'all, if you haven't heard of The Sweet Potato Queens, yuns are missing out on a real treat! Yes, this novel is dripping with Southern dialogue. It is truly a book to break your sides out in stitches as the author walks you through her childhood and the epiphany that lead to the formation of The Sweet Potato Queens.

One Piece
Weekly Shonen Jump is a manga anthology that is published in Japan by Shueisha under the Jump line of magazines. This manga distribution stands as the best-selling manga magazine. Not only that, but it is one of the longest-running in the entirety of manga distribution. The first issue was released with a cover date of August 1, 1968 and still goes strong some 50 years later. For those of you that don't know, Shonen (or shounen) are comics (often referred to as manga in the east and by some people in the west) that originate in Japan that target towards male teens between the ages of 12 and 18.

My Review of "Cruella"
Cruella is the live action movie about the villain of 101 Dalmatians. I wasn't too sure if I wanted to watch this movie because I wasn't a huge fan of the 101 Dalmatians cartoon. It wasn't my cup of tea but a friend of mine said that I had to give it a try. They said that the movie had great art direction and that I'd be surprised. That my friend sounds like a challenge that I'm willing to take.

Seirei no Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit
Seirei no Moribito, an animated television series first aired in April of 2007, is at the top of my list of great anime features of all time. It is not only visually breathtaking. The original music score is superb, and the story has all the elements that combine to make it a fantastic fantasy fairytale quasi-historical drama.
