Reagan, 2024 Biopic Dominates, Astounding Box Office Expectations
Reagan, Dennis Quaid’s newest movie biopic, tells the true story of President Ronald Reagan’s life. The film explores his boyhood through his later years as an adult. Penelope Ann Miller starred alongside Quaid as Nancy Reagan, and the movie scored a 98% total on Rotten Tomatoes. However, critics have been divided on the film since it saw a low 17% Tomatometer score. The movie was released on August 30. Although critics have given the film negative reviews, it has dominated expectations at the box office. Actor Jon Voight, who plays a fictional retired KGB officer who holds him responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union, provides most of the narration.

What Really Turned Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader: A Buddhist Take on Star Wars
Being a Buddhist has made me look at the Star Wars franchise through a Buddhist lens, including its characters. In the original Star Wars trilogy, Darth Vader is depicted as a ruthless, treacherous, formidable villain. In the Skywalker saga, we see what events led Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. While we can say numerous factors contributed to his Sith ways, it’s not so much the events or people Anakin faced, but the emotions and thoughts that led to his future actions. Both Jedi and Buddhists share the belief that positive emotions and thoughts can bring enlightenment and alleviate suffering.

Renaissance Festival War Stories September 14-15, 2024
...Continued from Weekend 4 This marks weekend 5 of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. This is where the show gets notoriously challenging: we start running out of energy quicker, I'm missing my husband more, and the weather is fickle. Time to dig deep and find the reserves, because we have a show to do.

Agatha Harkness
With Agatha All Along coming out and being a pretty stand alone show I think it is necessary to give some comic book context for the character. Though she played a fairly major role in WandaVision, not everyone has seen the show. And though it was fairly comic book accurate there is so much more to Agatha Harkness then we have seen. So as your local comic book historian I think it is important that we talk about her on the page counterpart as this show unfolds.

The Salem Seven
Agatha All Along has name dropped the Salem Seven and as your resident comic book expert I am here to answer all those burning comic book questions. I think context is really important for a lot of these Marvel shows. But more important than that, this is how I chronicle how comic book accurate these shows are. Not that they need to be, but the best MCU films and TV shows are truer to the source material. So whether or not you read or care about the comics it is in everyone's best interest if the creators care about them.

I Said "LUNCH", Not "LAUNCH"
Last November saw the death of legendary kids TV producer Marty Krofft at age 86. Marty along with his brother Sid, were to praise (or blame) for some of the most outrageous, crazy, and subversive children’s television of the 1970s and 1980s. Before Pee Wee’s Playhouse and before SpongeBob SquarePants, there was H.R Pufnstuf, Land of The Lost, Electra Woman & Dyno Girl, The Lost Saucer (with Jim Nabors) D.C. Follies, and much more. The Krofft brothers were probably the only people in the 1980s who imagined that Richard Pryor could headline a Saturday morning kids show (Pryor’s Place) in the style of Sesame Street.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea – West End Live in Bangkok: A Charming and Well-Crafted Delight for All Ages
I had the pleasure of attending The Tiger Who Came to Tea on its September 18 opening night at Bangkok's M-Theatre thanks to one of their many contests. The experience was made even more special knowing that the cast came straight from the West End, bringing their talent and energy to the stage.

Agatha All Along
The first episode of Agatha All Along was undeniably captivating. The mystery, the pacing, the way that all the characters played off of each other was brilliantly crafted. Jac Shaeffer has proven that she knows these characters, and more than that, that she cares for them. She is in fact the only writer in the MCU that I trust with my favorite characters. I have quite a few predictions based off this first episode but they gave us the first two so let's get into it.

Agatha All Along
Agatha All Along released its first 2 episodes at once this week. The first people to review it sang its praises, save for a few butthurt internet fanboys who can’t stand the sight of women on their TV screens. I for one am very skeptical about the series if for no other reason then they are adapting The Witches Road which is a very prominent WANDA storyline. And as she is my favorite character, and has yet to have her own solo movie, it very much feels like a slap in the face to take one of her biggest comic book moments and give it to someone else. That said, the promise of a future Scarlet Witch project hangs in the air so I am excited to see how Agatha can help us get there.
