Renaissance Festival War Stories Sept 20/21, 2025
Continued from week 4... "I'm not a 10..." One of my favorite new things I've been doing is to "enhance people's costumes." It isn't much, I don't even do anything myself - I instruct them how to style a cape if they are wearing one. The basic principal takes the cape from tying it on their collar bone to tying it behind their back and it changes the overall framing of their body. It works on about three out of four people because of the quality of the capes - ones who it doesn't work on, the strings on them are too short for the wrap around the back to work. One such man, in all dark clothing and reminded me of Ving Rhames. I tried to teach him this technique but his chest was too broad. He was barrel/ox-chested, and there was no way his cape strings were going to fit around his back.

Continuing from weekend 4... It's weekend 5 of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. The collective feeling going around is 'tired.' Many people I know overslept at some point over the last week, myself included. Hit was humid, 70s, and a bit rainy, and we were ready to play.

Continued from weekend 3... This weekend marks the halfway point in the season. I try to keep these posts dedicated towards the patrons, but today, the inspiration of the stories that hit home for me were sourced from our fellow warriors: the cast, crew, vendors, staff and more from the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.

Renaissance Festival War Stories August 30/31 & September 1
Labor day weekend is the first of two three-day weekends over the course of the festival season. You would think this would lead to more war stories, but some how, working 33 hours in 3 days makes the whole thing a blink and a blur. So here are just a couple things I recall from the weekend.

Continued from weekend 1... Mothers! Being in the renaissance festival community, many of us are lucky to have several mentor figures around. Many wonderful people who we can go to as Maternal and Paternal figures as well as friends and other guides and help. Jarl Aesa is one woman who has been an incredible mentor to me in the last few years in terms of how to lead and protect a group. This is her final season at the festival before retiring. She Will be missed, but her retirement and weekend rest is well earned.

How To Find Four-Leafed Clovers
As of writing this article, I have found over 400 four-leafed clovers...this year. 2024 was a record-breaking year for me in terms of finds. I was hoping to break 200 this year, but this year I shattered it. And until the snow falls and stays, I can keep looking and finding. With this record-breaking year, I estimate I have found over 1000 four-leafed (And five, six, and even three seven-leafed) clovers in my lifetime. There are those who chalk it up to luck, but I know, it's science and skill. And I can teach you how to find them too.

The Poisoned Pen Scroll 2024. Content Warning.
I told myself I wasn't going to write one of these this year, that I was better than writing angry stories. Sometimes they happen. Maybe they are more of a reminder of myself to be better in the future, and to learn from my mistakes. These are this season's stories.

Renaissance Festival War Stories September 21-22, 2024
Continued from weekend 5... We are down to the penultimate weekend. We are getting tired, but still love what we do. There is an odd mix coming of 'I'm ready for it to be over' vs 'I don't want it to be over.' We keep moving forward, we have no other choice.

Renaissance Festival War Stories September 14-15, 2024
...Continued from Weekend 4 This marks weekend 5 of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. This is where the show gets notoriously challenging: we start running out of energy quicker, I'm missing my husband more, and the weather is fickle. Time to dig deep and find the reserves, because we have a show to do.
