Comparison: 'Pokémon Detective Pikachu' vs. 'The Haunting in Connecticut'
Adaptation In the case of The Haunting in Connecticut, the so-called adaptation occurs with that fantastically marketable 'based on a true story' title which appears right at the start of the film. This title is so-often whipped out by many horror film producers to help yank audiences by the collars and get them all hot and bothered. And it is rarely used in a beneficial way, and never as some sort of plot device... but, here, with this 'true' horror story, it feels rather fitting. Because, with the film's opening scene, which shows us a mother being interviewed on camera in order to tell her family's haunted story (which we witness thereafter), you immediately get the sense that a part of this is 'their' story... and therefore, by no means, is it entirely 'true.' It is their (the family's) interpretation of what happened—or rather, an adaptation of what she says happened. It is very layered, and a great conceit for interpretation through the mode of film adaptation— where things can get lost and twisted.

Keanu Reeves had starred in a string of small productions after 2003's The Matrix Revolutions, and a few near misses like Constantine and The Day the Earth Stood Still.Clearly the action star got in shape for 47 Ronin, but the film failed to connect with audiences, costing Universal nearly $150 million in losses. In case you live under a rock — or more exactly, under a rock lost at the bottom of an uncharted cave in a galaxy far far away — yes, there is a debate on whether or not James Bond could be played by a black actor, namely: Idris Elba. People are at each other's throats on Twitter every time the subject comes up; on the right side, the “non-racists” who want a Black James Bond — because… well, why not?—and on the wrong side, the “He is a cultural figure that can’t be changed” team. It almost feels like there’s a war coming and I’m the only one who can stop it, using my top-notch Adaptation Theory knowledge and my license to write… ha ha. Lame.

Watching 'Animal World'
Animal World is the 2018 Chinese film that is based on the manga Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji, written and illustrated by Nobuyuki Fukumoto. The manga has had two anime adaptations and two live action adaptations in Japan starring Tatsuya Fujiwara as Kaiji. Animal World stars Yi Feng Li as the lead in the film, Dong Yu Zhou as the romantic interest while Michael Douglas plays the antagonist. It is both written and directed by Yan Han, and is his third directorial effort. The film clocks in at two hours and twelve minutes.

'Finding Forrester' (2001): Discovering Wallace
Sixteen-year-old Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) has grown up in the Bronx, New York. While playing basketball with his buddies, he is dared to sneak into the apartment of a recluse, William Forrester (Sean Connery), who is rumored to have committed murder. After accidentally leaving his backpack in the man's house, Jamal finds his life entangled with that of this mysterious man who turns out to be a writer. One of the major themes in the movie Finding Forrester is the importance of friendship. Jamal and William become great friends, and they inspire each other through their writings. Aside from strong language, and some crude humor, Finding Forrester has a realistic setting, good music, and captivating conflict.
