A Year of Labour
Now that Labour has had an entire year in power, let’s take a look at what they have done. This will not be an extensive list, and there is no particular order, and I fear a lot of what I am about to go through has caveats, some of which will be heavy.

Legacy of Kain
1999 was possibly the most important year for gaming. Until then it was easy to dismiss video games as childish and simplistic. Something that people grew out of much like when they decide to put their toys down. But in 1999 two games were released that demanded attention. Metal Gear Solid: Solid Snake, broke onto the market and would fit right in with movies such as, Escape from L.A., Bladerunner and Universal Soldier. This was a mega Movie of a game with as much cinematic cut scenes as there was gameplay! I played that game so much that when I walked away from the console I could still see the radar in the top right of my vision. This is a beloved game and even though the series ended on something of a low note, it is easily one of the best games ever made.

It Starts with Something Small
It starts as all things do, with something small. Something that goes completely unnoticed. Someone who you don’t know says something you’ve never heard- or gets a job you are largely unaware exists. One small little lie or comment that means nothing in the greater scheme of things, but it was essential to bring us to this point.

The Marvels
When I reviewed Captain Marvel, I didn’t want to just say, “Hey, this film is bad and here are the bad parts.” I wanted to break down why it didn’t work from a storytelling perspective. More so that others don’t make the mistake and perhaps in the hope that maybe the writer of the film would read the review or at least so the point got back to her.

Creativity
It seems bizarre to say and heart-breaking to realise that it needs to be said, but creativity is integral to anything creative. It’s not enough to tell a story but you must be able to look at all factors as if the project you are working on is more of a reflection of actual events and that you, the creator, are simply recording what has happened.

Spider-Man 2. Content Warning.
Let me tell you a story. A young teen - a boy who was always an outsider. He could never really fit in with the popular kids because his dyslexia put him in the special classes and the friends he met there, he could never turn his back on. This boy was drawn to the X-men, more specifically, James Howlett a.k.a., Wolverine. There was something about the tortured soul that drew me in and as any self-respecting long-haired teen, I begged my dad for Wolverine Comic books.

The Benefits of Playing Souls-like
Dark Souls gave birth to the term, ‘Get Good.’ And thanks to this we have seen numerous debates about having an ‘easy mode’ to the game or if that would be a betrayal of the game or cheapen the accomplishments made by the player. Whether it’s the magnificent battle with Ornstein and Smough, or the dream (or perhaps nightmare) battle with the Knight Artorias. I’m pretty sure my neighbor's kids know how to swear purely due to the number of times I have died to that character.

Is The Gaming Industry Dying?
Is Gaming dying? Let me start this by saying, I love video games. They are, by far, my main entertainment. Every now and then I’ll log on and play Call of Duty - and then proceed to have my rear-end handed to me by a bunch of teenagers who have just discovered swearing, but I laugh it off and keep going. I will scream as the same Boss or tough enemy has killed me for the millionth time on, Elden Ring. And now that I finally have a PlayStation 5 I am in awe of the beauty of Demon’s souls. Yes, I played it when it came out but the evolution has me mesmerized! Between you and I, I called in sick so I could continue playing Spider-Man 2. I recently discovered that I have sunk 600 hours into Wareframe, I have been enchanted by games like, Cathrine and Hollow Knight.

Fighting Depression
On March 19th I was given the opportunity to fight in an exhibition match. I have practiced martial arts for a number of years and since 2020 I have focused on Muay Thai - the Art of 8 Limbs. My first sparing session in Thai boxing showed me how under-prepared I was for this world and that my more traditional and meditation-based styles were just not suitable for combat.

She-Hulk, The Honest Review. Top Story - August 2022.
For the most part, I’m ignoring everything around the show, cast and crew interviews for the most part aren’t relevant. The whole, “why isn’t Bruce called He-Hulk” nonsense just isn’t relevant to the show, but there are a few bits that are so telling when you watch this show.

Morbius
Simply tearing this film apart would just not be productive. There was real potential with this film and visually, it is a wonder to see. Jared Leto gave an interview and was asked about the stuff of nightmares, the horrifying hand or Morbius from the cartoons. His response ignored the question and instead he went on about the style of the movie.

Elden Ring
This was not a game that came out of Nowhere. This is not a game that had the cards stacked against it. Instead, this is an amalgamation of consistently great stories, respectful gameplay, and the notion that a game doesn’t have to hold your hand to give you what you want.
