The Death Of Chadwick Boseman
I watched the movie, Black Panther, once and swore that was the only time I would. I was not taken in by the hype. For me, it was no different from the usual Hollywood propaganda films about Black people with its Black on Black violence, dismissal of Pan-Africanism, Trumpesque nationalism and white fragility, white saviour undertone. It was more a film to satisfy white fragility...special effects a huge distraction...that was just my opinion.

My Heart Will Definitely Go On
The world as I knew it would change in the year 1997. I was 10 years old and obsessed over historical documentaries. I know what you’re thinking, “What a little nerd,” but it’s true. My family always thought of me as the “black sheep.” I didn’t act like the other little girls of the late 90’s. I would lock myself up in my room and pop in the newest A&E historical documentary VHS tape that I found at the library. I guess you could say, I was a little different.

Jack Kelly, that Banner-Carrying King of New York
What’s not to love about Christian Bale singing and dancing, being all tough but showing an emotional side, becoming a fearless leader, fighting for his friends, and eventually leading them to victory? Jack Kelly, aka young Christian Bale with the most perfect hair, was my first celebrity crush– or maybe I should say “character crush” as I was enamored by the onscreen Newsy than the man who, unbeknownst to me at the time, also played Batman. Newsies became a favorite movie of mine just a few frames in. There’s a magic about it that any other Newsies fan can vouch for, I’m sure! I remember being completely pulled into the 1899 New York City setting when I heard a little ragtime piano riff in the background of the opening scene. After the big opening number, Carrying the Banner, I was all in, ready to side with these boys in whatever they took on. Jack Kelly was an intriguing character, confident, if a little bit arrogant, with a particular kind of intelligence, and of course, charming as they come. He had the New York accent and the hair that fell perfectly in front of his face. But I really fell in love when he began to sing, “Santa Fe.” Here are some of the reasons I fell head over heels for this banner-carrying, day-seizing king of New York.

My First Celebrity Crush
When I was 15, I had had some minor celebrity crushes, but nothing major, as the heartthrobs were all in their 20’s at that point…think Jason Priestly, Luke Perry (RIP,) etc. In 1993, that all changed for me. Boy Meets World hit the airwaves and quickly because a raging success. The fact that it was all set in suburban Philadelphia made it all the more exciting to me, being that I am a true Philly girl, born, raised, and still live there. I couldn’t wait to see the next episode…for more reasons than one.

My OG Celebrity Crush was Leif Garrett
Where do I even begin? The entirety of my teenage years was filled with dreams of going to Hollywood and meeting the gorgeous men I had plastered all over my bedroom walls, and attempting to look like the vixens and beauties from my favorite TV dramas and videos.

The Good Ol' Freddie Highmore Days
How it all started......... We're going back to the 2000's baby! I grew up in the 2000's and have watched so many awesome flicks with so many talented child actors and actresses. I have so many favourites, so it's impossible for me to just pick one. Many of my favourite child actors are male, but I have a few that are female such as AnnaSophia Robb. After watching quite a few British movies from the mid-2000's, I finally figured out who my celebrity crush was. He was not your typical punk or dude that would be seen walking on the streets in large silver necklace, the silky comb-over haircut, big baggy jeans and a t-shirt. The child actor that became my celebrity crush was British child actor Freddie Highmore, who played in several American films like August Rush (2007), The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008) and the British movie Five Children and It (2004). As a child, I used to imagine myself and him being best friends.

"Benny the Jet" Rodriguez
I still remember it, I spent the whole summer of 1994 babysitting my neighbor's four kids, and do you know what their favorite VHS tape was? You guessed it, or maybe the title gave it away, The Sandlot! Remember? That movie set in 1962 about a boy dubbed "Smalls" as in "you're killing me Smalls!" who moved to a new neighborhood and happens upon a group of boys about his age that are obsessed with baseball. They teach him to play, get into some trouble along the way and get themselves into the biggest pickle that any young kid could imagine. What's more is that the movie was actually filmed in my home state! Ogden, Midvale and Salt Lake City, Utah are my stomping grounds. Of course I didn't find this out until high school, but you know my movie loving girlfriends and I absolutely HAD to go and swim at Lauren Farr Pool in Ogden the second that we found out that that was the pool that appeared in the film. I think that may have been one of my favorite scenes when Squints fakes drowning at the pool and the life guard, Wendy Peffercorn, that he is in love with jumps in, saves him, and gives him mouth to mouth. When he wraps his arms around her and tries to give her a big old kiss, she smacks him and stomps off.

Remembering the King
I honestly don't know how I'm going to be able to write this because I still can't believe this man is gone now... I know I never met him (even though I wanted to at some point), and I know I haven't seen him in a lot of stuff, but goddamn it, when he hit his mark, he made sure you felt something, and it didn't matter what. I know I got a little sidetracked because I don't know how I want to write this, so please bear with me.
