Still Rewatching "Itaewon Class"? These Top Korean Dramas!

Top Korean Dramas!

By CorzatiPublished 5 months ago 3 min read

Itaewon Class was more than a drama. It was a story about chasing dreams, fighting injustice, and finding your place in a world that tries to push you down. If you still think about Park Sae-ro-yi’s fight, his unshakable morals, and his deep love story, these other Korean dramas will hit just as close.

1. Vincenzo

If you loved Sae-ro-yi’s smart but risky moves, Vincenzo will keep you hooked. Song Joong-ki plays a Korean-Italian mafia consigliere who returns to Korea, taking on corrupt corporations with his own brutal style. It’s sharp, witty, and full of clever revenge.

2. My Name

This one has the same grit and emotional punch. Han So-hee plays a woman who joins a crime gang to find her father’s killer. It’s action-heavy, but also digs deep into loyalty, betrayal, and pain—just like Itaewon Class did in its most intense moments.

3. Start-Up

Chasing dreams, building something from nothing, and dealing with messy relationships—that’s Start-Up in a nutshell. Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk lead a heartfelt story about young entrepreneurs trying to make it big while figuring out love and life.

4. Prison Playbook

If you enjoyed Itaewon Class’s theme of friendship built through hardship, Prison Playbook delivers it in a unique way. Set mostly inside a prison, it’s a mix of humor, warmth, and emotional gut punches. Every character feels real.

5. D.P.

Based on the struggles inside South Korea’s military, D.P. is intense, raw, and brutally honest. It follows a team tasked with catching army deserters, uncovering deep issues in the system. Like Itaewon Class, it shows the cost of standing up for what’s right.

6. Hotel Del Luna

It’s different in setting, but shares the same emotional weight. IU and Yeo Jin-goo star in a story about a mysterious hotel for ghosts. Love, regret, and redemption run deep here, making it unforgettable.

7. Law School

If you liked Itaewon Class’s tension and courtroom drama, this is for you. It follows law students and professors caught in a murder case, blending mystery with moral questions about justice.

8. Misaeng (Incomplete Life)

This one feels grounded, like the real-world struggles in Itaewon Class. It’s about an intern trying to survive in a cutthroat corporate environment, showing the quiet but powerful moments of perseverance.

9. The Glory

If revenge was your favorite part of Itaewon Class, The Glory will blow you away. Song Hye-kyo delivers a chilling performance as a woman who spends years planning the downfall of her school bullies. It’s dark and satisfying.

10. Crash Landing on You

While Itaewon Class had slow-burn romance, Crash Landing on You takes it to an epic scale. A South Korean heiress accidentally lands in North Korea and falls for a soldier. It’s heartfelt, funny, and deeply romantic.

11. My Liberation Notes

If you connected with the emotional depth of Itaewon Class, this drama’s quiet storytelling will speak to you. It’s about three siblings and their search for freedom and happiness in life.

12. Chief of Staff

This political drama gives the same fight-against-power vibe. It follows an ambitious aide navigating corruption and power struggles in the National Assembly, showing the cost of ambition and loyalty.

Why These Dramas Feel Like Itaewon Class

What made Itaewon Class special wasn’t just its plot—it was the feeling it gave. The rush of watching someone fight impossible odds. The bittersweet victories. The slow but deep love story that made you root for them till the end.

These dramas carry the same heartbeat. Some take it darker, diving into revenge (Vincenzo, The Glory). Others focus on friendships born from struggle (Prison Playbook, My Liberation Notes). Some mix romance and ambition in ways that make you feel every win and loss (Start-Up, Crash Landing on You).

In the end, they all share one thing—characters who refuse to give up, no matter how hard life hits. Just like Sae-ro-yi, they keep fighting. And you can’t help but fight with them.

If you’re ready to feel that same fire again, these dramas are waiting. Pick one, press play, and let yourself get pulled back into that world of hope, struggle, and triumph.

My Liberation Notes was the first kdrama which felt like a breakaway from the ones I've watched before. There's romance but grounded. There's life in all it's dreary detail. And sprinklings of humour. Start-up comes a close second because they bucked the 'happy ending' trend (although it was a happy ending - ish). This is a cool list. I'm one day into learning Korean and Itaewon Class has been recommended as a film to watch if you want to pick up local vernacular. I'll go back to some of these kdramas you recommended for sure, to enjoy it with my newfound Korean comprehension skills!
