Seventh PSL team sold for Rs1.75bn as FKS wins bid
FKS Group Secures New PSL Franchise

Indonesia-based FKS Group has bought the seventh Pakistan Super League team for Rs1.75 billion. The auction was held at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on Thursday. As a result, the newly added PSL franchise has been officially named Hyderabad.
The bidding process started at Rs1.10 billion and quickly became competitive. FKS Group and I2C Group emerged as the strongest contenders during the auction. Eventually, FKS Group secured the team after an intense bidding battle.
The addition of a seventh franchise is being seen as a major step in the long term expansion of the Pakistan Super League. Since its launch, the PSL has aimed to grow both its fan base and its business value. This latest auction reflects how far the league has come in attracting serious international investment. The strong interest from overseas groups highlights the commercial potential of Pakistan cricket on a global stage.
Meanwhile, PSL CEO Salman Naseer praised the league’s steady growth and strong commercial appeal. He said the PSL was not only surviving but also moving forward. Moreover, he credited franchises and sponsors for strengthening the league.
Salman Naseer also pointed out that each new season brings improved standards in broadcasting, marketing, and matchday experience. According to officials, the league has become more stable financially, allowing it to explore expansion without risking its core structure. The successful auction process was described as transparent and competitive, reinforcing confidence among current franchise owners and potential future investors.
At the same time, PCB officials highlighted the importance of fan support. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi awarded Rs90 million to the Rising Star Asia Cup winners. In addition, the Hong Kong Sixes champions received Rs18.5 million as prize money.
The recognition of young talent and international achievements reflects PCB’s broader strategy to promote cricket at every level. By rewarding teams and players, the board aims to build stronger pathways for emerging athletes. Officials believe that a growing domestic league combined with international exposure will help improve Pakistan’s overall cricket ecosystem. Fan engagement remains a key factor in this process, with stadium attendance and television viewership continuing to shape the league’s direction.

The auction also marked the start of adding two new teams to the PSL. Nine groups competed after former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen withdrew. The successful bidders can choose team names from Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Sialkot.
With Hyderabad already confirmed under FKS Group ownership, attention now turns to the selection of the eighth team. The cities shortlisted represent a mix of major urban centers and regions with strong cricket traditions. This approach is intended to widen the league’s geographic reach and attract new audiences across the country. Expanding into additional cities could also provide opportunities for local businesses, regional sponsors, and young players seeking a professional platform.
Cricket analysts suggest that the growing value of franchises signals confidence in the PSL’s future. The increasing financial commitments from investors indicate belief in the league’s ability to generate long term returns. At the same time, league officials have stressed that competitive balance, player welfare, and fan experience will remain priorities. As preparations begin for the next season, all eyes will be on how the new Hyderabad franchise shapes its squad and brand identity within the tournament.
