Running Point Netflix Series Review
'Running Point' is an inspiring show about leadership and family.

Are you sure you can shoot all these hoops at once?
Running Point made the winning basket and appeared on Netflix in 2025. Isla Gordon has been appointed president of the L.A. Waves basketball team. Excited for this opportunity in the family business, she aims to prove others' skepticism wrong.
As my latest treadmill binge-watch series, Running Point is an inspiring show about leadership and family. This series was not what I was expecting, focusing more on personal themes than basketball. No matter your gender, fight for what you want.
Kate Hudson was the right choice for the role of Isla Gordon. She is a strong actress who has played several female leaders. Isla Gordon does not mess around, ready to take control of a male-run platform. However, Isla is not an open book, avoiding being vulnerable. Hudson did an amazing job of reading this role.
My favorite part about Running Point is the relationship between the Gordons. Drew Tarves (Sandy Gordon), Scott MacArthur (Ness Gordon), Fabrizio Guida (Jackie Moreno), and Justin Theroux (Cam Gordon) play Isla’s brothers. They were all terrific in their performances. I didn’t expect them to have subplots featuring them.
Writers magnified the male characters' stories to be something more. Isla’s brothers are each struggling with masculine stereotypes. That angle is not focused on enough in the media. Sandy’s coming-out story is impactful, as Ness learns to be more open emotionally, while Jackie has to figure out a dynamic he’s never been a part of.
Credits include Brenda Song, Toby Sandeman, Jay Ellis, Max Greenfield, and Scott Evans. Keyla Monterroso Meja appeared in some episodes. She has appeared in several media as a supporting actress. I like watching her grow and expand her career.
Creators Ike Barinholtz, Mindy Kaling, and Elaine Ko made an impactful show for all audiences. Running Point is not just about sports. Working in the media is a tough job because we have to mask an image, which puts a lot of stress on all genders. Expectations are strict.
The series is based on Jeanie Buss, the president of an L.A. basketball team. While Running Point is mainly a fictional telling, Buss praised the accuracy in the stress of the job. She has to convey the right outlook and reputation for women's audiences.
The writing is sharp throughout the series, creating strong storylines. Buss also praises the work of Kaling, who creates stories about women’s leadership. All the characters are given depth. It’s not just about one person.
The show was filmed mostly in L.A., starting in February 2024. They aimed for authenticity as much as possible. While L.A. is the hustle and bustle of anyone’s dreams, it is also one of the most overwhelming places. The traffic attests to that.
Running Point has some basketball scenes. It’s also a behind-the-scenes take on the sports world. The gender of the running leadership does not matter because it’s a tough job. I am not a big sports person, but I have noticed in news stories how stressed sports managers are when sports teams are lagging. The sports world is more difficult than you realize.
The show is funny. The actors worked well on their dynamic, delivering humorous dialogue and reactions. Not only that, but the series is also heartwarming. It’s more than a series about sports, representing family, friendship, and being true to yourself.
Check out Running Point on Netflix. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger. Whether you’re a sports fan or not, this series has something for everyone. I cannot wait for the second season.
